I know it sounds stupid but since PCS I am afraid of going outside when it is very windy.
Right now there is a storm outside but I need to go to my car and pick up my son. Can strong wind cause a concussion? It feels like it is pulling my head around. Thanks |

No, a strong wind cannot cause a concussion. Your only risk is falling. It takes very strong winds to cause a fall so I would not be worried.

Thanks Mark,
I think it might be the sound of the wind in my ears that causes the fear. |

Anja,
I had a very difficult time with wind this year until August or thereabouts. I don't know why because prior to injury I have always loved wind. I knew it was anxiety related and was able to beat it but it did take awhile. Pcs does weird things. Bud |

I know how you feel, but as Mark says, its impossible to get a concussion from a wind. When it is stormy outside I am more worried, that a road sign or similar will come lose and hit me in the head.
Are you treating your neck? I cant see how theese issues should be brain related (except anxiety) but perhaps you have a upper neck injury? I read somewhere that it is "normal" for whiplash sufferers to get symptoms from eg braking the car quickly - I also get symptoms when doing that, and I think I read in one of your previous posts that you also have this. I am no expert but perhaps you should look more into upper neck injury than concussion? As Mark has said many times, think posture when relaxing and sleeping, perhaps some PT masage, NSAID and warming your neck. And move around as much as possible in a way that doesnt give you symptoms. Just some suggestions... |

Truly impossible to sustain any injury from wind, as others have said. But, I can completely relate with you about the anxiety.

This is a very interesting post because I learned a few days ago that strong wind definitely effects me!
In Melbourne here we have had incredibly strong winds (now causing horrible bushfires in South Australia) and n my way to work yesterday I battled the short walk I take with wind whipping around me - just as I'm sure everyone else battled. The difference was not long after getting inside my office, I felt incredibly dizzy and uncoordinated. And then nausea (which I've been experiencing for a week) came on worse. I seriously think it effected my equilibrium and hence has given me these symptoms again. It's still having effects today and I feel like I'm back in week 1 when I couldn't walk straight! Wind never use to be a problem to me in the past. Has anyone else experienced this effect? Should I be worried? I sincerely hope it doesn't last long. |

Fuzz,
Why worry about something you cannot change. I think the winds added some stress and strain to your existing nausea to make your symptoms worse. I don't think the physical forces of the wind against you head had anything to do with your symptoms. Tensing up your body muscles can result in anxiety, sort of a fight or flight reaction. |

Fuzz,
I think I would agree with Mark. I know had a difficult time with wind this year until recently and chalk it up to anxiety. Hope the wildfires get under control, California had a lot of wildfires this summer due to prolonged drought. Bud |

I have that too. So I just bought a hat that covers my ears too. That was the main reason I have trouble in the wind.
