Default switching states of mind

has anyone experienced difficulty in switching states of mind? for example: before a big event you may have some adrenaline and be a bit anxious. after the event (interview, presentation, whatever), you generally calm down right away and move on to other stuff. it seems that now i can't calm down right away and it takes me many hours to stop feeling "hyper" or anxious, not sure which.

anyone else experience something like this? if so, what's a good way to force yourself to snap back to not being hyper or calm down?

I have this problem. In the worse cases, my blood pressure gets elevated so I take a propranolol. If the anxiety is without the BP rise but making me feel miserable, I might take a small piece of a Klonopin. I sometimes will try to focus on a boring TV show that takes my attention away from how I am feeling. Staying occupied with low stress distractions help. Otherwise, it just takes time without further stimulation.

Not sure this is exactly the same, but on days when I am over-stimulated or have too much activity I frequently will have sleep disturbance issues for the next 2 or 3 days. I've assuming there's a physiological reason for this as it's like clockwork! However, I'm not sure if that's the case.

Like Mark, whenever I happen to do or be subjected to too much, I'll also do mundane things that quiet my mind... this always helps with calming.

have either of you experimented with meditation or yoga or deep breathing or anything else to try to speed the process up? i'd prefer not to take another pill but it's hard to be any sort of productive when revved up.

This can be prolonged due to the chemical cascade of stress and other chemicals.

If it causes my mind to race, I find prayer helps.

Injured,

I can get the same thing happening...a lot less now but it can still
occur.

I pray, a lot this year!

I use meditation but it's almost impossible to get into a deep meditative state at that point. It still helps but I find that I need to do many short rounds.

Breathing is almost the same as meditation so you can use control breathing. I find counting heartbeats between breathing the easiest and fastest. This give the mind something to focus on.
