Have you guys had any specific treatments that you found helped you a lot?
I had a buddy who said seeing the Osteopath did wonders for his concussion |

The most important thing you can do is be disciplined with taking breaks when your brain needs them before overstimulating. This may take some time to learn to do, but the earlier that you learn to do this, the faster you will recover. Understand that setbacks and overstimulation will happen and are part of the process. "Pushing through" symptoms simply will make things worse.
In order of importance to me the treatments that helped the most were: NUCCA chiro--very different than the traditional "twist and pop" method--syntonic phototherapy, vestibular therapy, PT, vision therapy, massage, and acupuncture. Your neck may be causing symptoms. Many people with concussions sustain neck injuries. If you did as well, chiropractor and PT may help you very much, especially with headaches. Diet and exercise are also important. For me, exercise is much more important than diet, but I still want to recover the best that I can, so I take my diet seriously. If exercise causes symptoms instead of helping them, you may be exercising too hard, or you should wait until you can exercise. Exercise was counterproductive to me for a while. I follow the Perfect Health Diet, which you can see here: http://perfecthealthdiet.com/wp/wp-c...Food-Plate.jpg. Basically, it's an anti-inflammatory diet. It is written by two Harvard professors that had health problems that resolved when they fixed their diet. Supplements are important too. Look at the Vitamin and Supplement Regimen sticky at the top of the page. I'm no expert in this category, but I'd suggest taking what Mark in Idaho recommends. I have chiros working on my upper cervical, but not specifically NUCCA, Im giving these chiros a chance first, before I try NUCCA, did you feel benefits right away with that or it take a few sessions?

Upper cervical treatment will be useless unless you practice good head and neck posture while sleeping and resting. The 'twist the head and pop the neck' adjustment is too aggressive for most and can cause inflammation. Inflammation is the enemy.
Personally, after seeing many chiros, I'd find one that works well with you and your body and stick with him/her. The anti-inflammatory food diet link needs a key. What do the brown vs green colors mean ? The fructose free sweetener is not good for PCS. Stevia is OK but the other non-sugar sweeteners are not. Most treatments by specialists are focused on specific symptoms. What symptoms are you trying to treat ?

I never had any treatments that did anything for me.
But I sure agree with JBuckl...learning to rest was imperative. Bud |

I am getting so much better. Still not 100% but everything these guys have said has been essential to my progress I believe. Patience, faith and loving support also helps. Easy to get scared especially when you have a setback and knowing this is also part of your learning/healing is key. I "see the horizon" and I had my doubts at times. I can only hope my progress will keep on. I have learned to listen to my body in new ways.

I would like to thank you for this I copied that diet and will look into it for many reasons. I saw a chiro once, and that was enough! I believe it was, what you call a "twist and pop" type because that is exactly what happened. My shoulder was dislocated, per him, and he wanted me back for several "whatevers" a week on my back and shoulder. Uh, hell naw. No thanks for the pain I just endured.

There are a lot of chiro treatments that can be beneficial. The twist and pop neck adjustment is just one and it can be too aggressive. The common back manipulations can be worthwhile as long as they are indicated and not done as scheduled maintenance. Any chiro who tries to set up a treatment schedule needs to be considered carefully. There are some who understand how to diagnose and treat mildly dislocated collar bones but the shoulder is not usually a chiro area. I have had shoulder problems since 1970's. I've never had a chiro treat a shoulder other than with the elbow lift hug. No pain. No twist and pop.

agreed,
my buddy is a chiro and has done wonders to help with mobility and back pain, been having them work on my upper cervical, 2-3 times for the past 2-3 weeks, changed my sleeping habits practicing good posture, just cleaned up my diet, so hopefully time will be on my side now, have any one of you been in a hyperbaric chamber? |

I am going to be subscribing to this one. This is my first post here and you can guess why I am here!
I have been dealing with TBI only to find out until recently, figure that. If anyone has more suggestions please supply them. I'm going to keep trying to find ways to help myself. As for the one asking for the help, I did something today that has helped me go from "out-of-control" to "relaxed" by resting my hand on the side of my face comfortably and sort of zoned out but more so just thought deeply and over all took my mind off things. It was surprising how much this put me back to normal which is inspiring me. Now I want to find out more about TBIs for the sake of my own good. |
