Default Dizziness appearing at almost 10 Months PC

I know Mark will probably know the answer to this, but if anyone else has experienced this, I'd like to know.

I'm 10 months in post concussion and have had most of the regular symptoms, sometimes worse than others. I had a relapse at the beginning of January, but have been doing much better now that I've been resting again.

Here's the odd thing that I don't understand. It makes no sense to me. Up until a couple of weeks ago, The main thing that I was lucky enough Not to be experiencing was dizziness.

Suddenly 2 weeks ago I got up one morning and was standing in front of the counter, lost my balance and almost hit my head on the edge before catching myself. I had 2 or three more moments that day and thought it was odd.

It seems now that every 2 or 3 days I feel somewhat dizzy. Yesterday morning I was a bit dizzy, but it seemed to clear up as the day went on. Today I woke up very dizzy and still am. This is the worst so far.

I'm not sick at all. I'm eating well. I've been doing guided meditation and breathing exercises and it seems to have helped my anxiety issues that have magically appeared with the concussion, and with the anxiety calming, most of my symptoms have been reducing.

So why the dizziness? Could this even BE part of the concussion at this point? It seems odd to me that it would suddenly appear.

Any feedback would be great.

Have you been assessed by a vestibular specialist ?

Did you feel dizzy or light-headed ? There is an overlap between the two.

I've never been assessed for vestibular...in fact I didn't even know what the word 'vestibular' meant until the last couple of days when I started looking at some of the posts that involve dizziness to see if people might be experiencing what I am.

I'm not sure if it would be considered dizziness or lightheaded. I feel like when I 'm looking straight at something, things seem almost normal, but when I turn my head, my eyes have to refocus, or catch up... I feel like it's dizziness, but I guess I don't really know the difference.

Perhaps I should see a vestibular doctor? I am concerned that with my luck I'll feel fine that day.

An ENT may have a vestibular specialist on staff or hearing and balance clinics (hearing aid clinics) often treat this. The head movement trigger suggest vestibular.

For me, dizzy has been tied to my eyes.

This is one of the most baffling properties of PCS, that relapses and here a new symptom can come seemingly out of nowhere.

I'm early at still under two months total. But especially since the second bang on my head -- which I increasingly feel should be my starting point to count elapsed weeks -- my PCS has been, like Mark has characterized it, more of an ongoing process than the usual linear progression of much more familiar injuries. I have felt good then suddenly out of nowhere it's almost like it's saying "uh-uh, you cannot feel good, you have to feel bad.' It's amazing how things change week to week. I suspect that repair, rebalancing, our own personal reactions to things -- and of course doing too much -- are all intertwining on an ongoing basis.

Dizziness and occasional vertigo were always my main symptoms during my recovery, and as Bud said is usually tied to ocular problems. I can honestly say that the thing that has helped me overcome it the most is really not paying attention to it. Unless you are at real risk for falls (or it is causing severe nausea), and/or the dizziness is being caused by a health issue other than concussion or anxiety, it is basically harmless. My docs, vestibular specialists and others convinced me of this. It is annoying--but harmless. And usually dizziness associated with concussions and/or mild TBI will eventually resolve. With that said, I think yours may very well be mostly anxiety related?

Either that or ocular or Vestibular. I can laugh because today is a good day. I'm sure you're all familiar with what I mean. I'm going to check the vestibular, and I guess the other avenues if that turns up as nothing. I don't mind it Terribly other than it seems like I'm not fully able to keep up, so if it were to get much worse than this it would probably keep me down... On the couch...which would Nit be good. I tell you, if I ever get over this I want to run a Spartan Race.

Yes, I really get it. As I've made a nearly full recovery (with some symptoms that hover around a bit still) I've made all kinds of plans for doing amazing things in my life in the future.

Best thing to do with this kind of dizziness, if not caused by a heart condition or other condition and not causing falls--move forward each day and the next day will be better. The brain adapts if you keep moving, keep working toward something greater than yourself. The worst thing for my dizziness was, honestly, lying on the couch and worrying and obsessing about it.
