Hello group,
Anyone who is interested in doing some cognitive training at a relatively low cost should visit: www.lumosity.com. They offer a lot of different exercises you can do to train processing speed, memory, attention, vision, etc. And it's pretty convenient since it is all done online. |

From what I can tell, lumosity.com offers you 14 days as a free trial then your account is billed for $80 for a year's subscription.
I am not commenting either pro or con. Just commenting about lumosity rates. They are hard to find on-line. Lumosoty.com and Posit Science at http://cts.vresp.com/c/?PositScience...4d9/fd5cff8623 appear to be the top rated brain exercise companies. Posit Science is much more expensive but considered to have better science behind their program. Just what I have found online. I have not tried either. SSDI does not pay enough to afford either one.

You should also check out EyeQ. I use it and it does speed up my reading and visual processing speed.

The purpose of EyeQ is to increase reading speed and comprehension. It does this by training the eyes to scan across the line and pick up the main words that the brain needs to understand the sentence. The visual processing speed is not improved by much. Instead, the meaningless words are omitted from the processing stream.
By only reading the meaningful words, the brain is not cluttered with the meaningless words. It teaches your brain to skip words. The more words your brain can skip, the faster the speed. The greater the concentration of meaningful words, the better the comprehension. If you speak a second language but have to translate in your head as you speak, it slows your comprehension. If you can think in the other language, your speed and comprehension goes way up. This is similar to the short cuts the brain uses for speed reading and comprehension. You don't have to think about the and, as, for, when, etc. The English language is a very wordy language. This just teaches the brain to ignore the extra words. If you understand advanced math, it is like the way you use logarithms to replace a complicated formula or number with a much simpler formula. If you can afford the price and need to improve your reading skills, why not. The web comments mention the the company that sells EyeQ is very hard to do business with if you have a problem. *edit*
