Hi there,
I have recently been told i may have "suspected" Trigeminal Neuralgia, however this was only after a 15 minute check from a doctor in the hospital emergency department. I am a bit doubtful as to whether it is actually TN that i have after looking further into it. So i wonder if anyone may be able to comment on if they think it is TM or not base don my below comments?...... So i have not got any crazy severe shooting/stabbing pain in my head/face, but what i do have is one side of my face/part of my scalp (right side) that has a sore/burnt sensation. It feels just as it its been badly sunburnt (although it hasn't). There is no visable redness, so the burnt sensation must coming from be under the skin and its feeling like this from the top right of my forehead, down past my eye/temple to my cheekbone and then a bit back into my scalp to just behind the ear. It feels numb and burnt constantly (so its not a pain that comes and goes), and its been like this for the past 4-5 days. Headache wise, about a week ago i had a headache on one day, but wasn't shooting pains accross the face. So, my question is - can it be TN with the absence of the actual severe shooting pains accross the face, but just with the right side of my face/scalp feeling sunburnt for days and tender/sore to the touch? Any comments/thoughts gratefully received. Thanks in advance. |

I am new here, and was diagnosed with TN just last Tuesday, so I'm not one who can give advice.
What happened to me is that there are "triggers" that bring on the pain. For example, one day recently I decided to take a bike ride on the greenway for exercise. It was a nice, sunny, warm day, so I rolled down the window for fresh air, but had to close it fast, because the pain in my eye area was extremely painful. I cannot get in shower and place my head under the spout with hot water coming down, because it causes the same kind of pain. Or if my left eyebrow is itching, I can't scratch it because of the pain. Your condition doesn't sound like the same thing I have. I believe it would be best for you to consult with a neurologist to make sure there is nothing else causing the pain. I was told to get a CT scan so they could rule out other things. Good luck, and I hope you find the cause of it soon. JP |
