Magnesium is used in the metabolism of fats.
This is an interesting site: http://www.charlespoliquin.com/Artic...s_Mineral.aspx I wonder if a magnesium cream on your wrists would help? Since I started doing it instead of oral, I have much less carpal tunnel.

MrsD --
Read that calcium should always be taken with magnesium. (I also do Iodoral, coQ10, resveratrol, selenium, D3, K2etc) I don't take calcium, can I just do my magnesium oil by itself? Or do I really need extra calcium? I just am NOT sure. A book I am referencing is by Dr. C. Dean and lists Magnesium citrate: 300 mg 2 to 3 x per day Magnesium oil applied to skin 10-20 sprays per day Calcium citrate: 500mg daily Vitamin C: 1000mg twice per day Vit E: as mixed tocopherols - 400 IU daily B complex and some others... It seems like alot to me. I have a great diet *NO processed. Organic. VARIED. Healthy Lean proteins. Healthy Plant Oils/fats. Low Dairy. Lots of veggies and low sugar fruits with filtered water. I just wonder if this is just wasteful? Your feelings? Thanks. |

The D3 will greatly enhance absorption of any calcium you eat in foods.
You can do magnesium without calcium. They share the same transporter pathway in the bowel. I wouldn't worry about it. Most people don't get enough magnesium at all, and that is far more important. If you use alot of topical, you may not even need oral supplements. I wouldn't think you need 3 of those magnesium citrates. If you get loose on the citrate that is a sign it is not being absorbed.

I'm always worried about "How much is too much?" I'm taking 300 mg per day of citrate, in addition to whatever is in my multi-vitamin. I would take even less, but this seems to be the lower limit for me. 300 mg 2 to 3 x per day would be a lot for me. |

The glycinate is the chelate part.
A chelate is an organic molecule that holds the magnesium until it is absorbed. The chelates tend to enhance absorption, but even with them, it is not 100%. It is thought that improving vit D levels, also enhances magnesium absorption, along with calcium. Typical chelates are malate, glycinate, gluconate, lactate, taurate, citrate.
