Does anyone have the problem that when they start to exercise they are all gung ho about it and then suddenly stop?
No matter what I try it all seems to end up that way. Either I just stop altogether or one of my Fibromyalgia symptoms prevent me from going and then I stop. The reason I am asking is tomorrow I am starting to go to the gym again for the treadmill and I really need to stick to it this time. Any advice?

Wendy;
Before the nasty neuropathy took away the ability to use my feet for things other than walking very short distances - like from the bedroom to the bathroom - I could excercise and never appreciated the fact that I could. Now I'm dieting and it would be going so much faster if I could excercise so my first bit of advice is to think of excercise as something you WANT to do rather than something you NEED to do. Also, vary the type of excercise from day to day to allieviate boredom. Use the treadmill on bad weather days or at night and walk outside on the nice days. You get the idea - you are smart so you get bored easily, right? One good excercise almost every woman does is clean. But you have to get your heart going so do the hard stuff, mop floors, vacuum, change bedding, etc. Go at it for an hour or an afternoon, as long as you are cleaning, it counts! Turn on your favorite tunes or t.v. program. Promise yourself a long bubble bath when you are done or watch that movie you've been wanting to see that your husband thinks is for chicks only :-) And if you would, could you take that extra step for me (and think of me right next to you making you work harder!!!) Just have fun, Nancy |

I try and tell Todd that but he thinks I sit on my backside all day and do nothing. Which happens on some days but on others I am doing errands and other things.
Today my cold has me not quite ready for the gym yet so I will be walking around the building today. Of course I pick a day where its windy as heck and chilly. Oh well....I will wear the windbreaker and gortex jacket and hoof it!

I sympathise with you completely...I think it has to do..at least with me....the fact that I wasn't losing weight when I was exercising. In fact I was gaining some weight and that is because muscle weighs more than fat...so the real reasons to exercise is to be healthier, to have more energy, to improve our balance, to improve our bones, hearts, our health. Stuff that takes a while to see the efforts results.
I jsut read that we lose 12% of muscle as we age each decade, but by doing weight bearing exercises for only 2 months we can get that back...that my friend is pretty significant! I can't seem to get out of bed in the mornings am going to start taking my pm meds earlier to see if this helps. (((HUGS))) bizi

Wendy, I have found that exercise does not work for me. I have had to sit so much in the last years that my body can't sem to cope with exercise. My thighs get painful when walking, have a heel that has lost it's fat pad, if having chest pain it gets worse when walking, etc.
I keep trying only to find it just plain won't work. Froggie |
