Carol, that is good about your husband and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.

My father was on it for some years - his unrelated health issues meant that haemodialysis and a kidney transplant were not options.

I hope that your husband gets a kidney transplant soon.

I am not seeking to tell you or your husband how to suck eggs but sterile technique is really important with the CAPD catheter. Infection is a major risk - my father was pretty good with sterile technique but got an infection which he did not survive.

All the best.

Keith doesn't do CAPD - he uses a cycler (CCPD) and doesn't have the fluid in during the day because he works full time. (just a little for the cycler to have something to drain when he hooks up) We did use twin bags for our first vacation but after that we took the cycler with us.

His nephrologist did an excellent job placing the catheter and he's never had any problems with the exit site or peritonitis. I'm so sorry about your dad, Kiwi, that must have been devastating.

Keith has polycystic kidney disease (PKD) inherited from his dad. He doesn't rely on dialysis for fluid removal which has been a big advantage. Other than his kidneys, he's in generally good health - we can't wait for the transplant so we can have our evenings back. He should sleep better too as the cycler wakes him several times a night with "drain pain". It only lasts for a few minutes but it breaks up his sleep and often mine as well.

Well, my week long company have departed. Now to get my eating back on track.

Yeah, I figured if he had to do dialysis, the least I could do was set it up, break it down and deal with ordering the various supplies. I've been so busy lately that he's had to do a bit more himself but the end is in sight. It seems like its been forever, and then it seems like we just took the training, rather than 3 yrs ago.

We were given some zucchini fresh from the garden so I stir fried those with onions and garlic and then cooked skinless chicken thighs in the oven. Had some leftover steamed carrots. Turned out an OK dinner. Nice to not have to worry about having enough for company.

Your dinners still sound better Bizi!

I cooked a crock pot pork roast with spinach and squash and carrots and onions and cream of mushroom soup and some sage and spices not much salt. one pot dinner. it turned out good and plenty of left overs for friday then will freeze the rest.spinach stuffed chicken breast and some veggies for dinner tomorrow night. we rented a car to go on vacation this year. We pick up the car friday morning, I hope it is a fun car. WE did not want to put the 2500 miles on the new cars. and it only cost about $300. not too too bad.
we had the tree trimmed today and mulch put down around the tree it nourishes the tree. WE had an arbourist do the work, $1100. They did a good job.
I ate a delicious pear for a snack and I am still munchie. will resit the peanut butter that is calling my name. I had some nuts earlier. few cashews and some brazil nuts which are very good for us for some reason, I forget what. We are supposed to eat 4 a month.
good night. another AF night for me, should sleep better.

Bizi, your home-cooked meals look great to me. Nuts are great (I snack on them often) because they are good sources of protein, healthy fats, soluble fibre, some vitamins, some minerals and lots of other healthy things - there more on this here; http://www.nutritionaustralia.org/na...uts-and-health .

Mulch will certainly help your tree.

Keep on keeping on - I reckon that you are doing really well .

Red face

hi carol,
I was afraid to get on the scale this morning....
146. so easy to gain weight. Recklace eating and drinking make for the scale to not be too too happy. I should stop drinking until my next vacation perhaps this is bloat weight. I have 2 vacations in august. I plan on drinking for both of those. My goal is to stop drinking come september for 100 days.
At least this is my thinking.
Bizi
