I'm getting ready to look into vitamins, and they are on sale so I'm really interested.
But I can't handle the ones like multi vitamin that are over the counter that are chalky taste, and I need to find something that works. SO can you help me. I am taking a calcium and magnisium together, but its making me gag I need to see if there is something that wont. Any clues And anything else I need to take. Donna |

Hi Dmom.
I'm sure Mrs D will have some great suggestions for you. I like using Viactiv multi-vitamin flavor glides (Berry Breeze). It really feels like it glides down your throat and has a nice berry flavor. Viactive also has chewable vitamins - I haven't tried those so no opinion on how they taste.

i use a good multivit from walgreens....Super Aytinal. it's got all the vits and minerals and the B's in it. i think it swallows well. i showed it to my dr and she approved it.
i take my calcium with vit D. helps the absorption. the Mag is in the multivit. check with your dr or your pharmacist. they can really help you. especially the pharmacist.

I love my New Chaper Organics. No chalky taste. Its not made from synthetic vitamins but rather whole food.
You can get it from I herb I do the every woman which is a multi-vitamin and the b complex as well. |

maybe try capsules or gel types for easy swallowing.
Or a good tasting liquid vitamin or a powder you can dissolve in water?? Many brands have a outline of the tablet size on the package - but sometimes they aren't exactly a match.

I bought the milk chocolate mutivitamin for women. I would put its name
here but I had to put it in the car. I also at this point bought magnesium, cinnamon, and a B-complex. I take a calcuim and Vitamin D I have already. So thats what I'm going to start with. IF anyone can think of something that might help also let me know. I'm just getting started and these are the starters. I'm going to be gone the next two days for work. Donna |

I have asked my doc and other knowledgable people about this and although I'm not great w/ details, can tell you a little something. Also...I like the website iherb.com...lots of good info. to find there.
The doc told me that many women suffer from slight insulin resistence and to take 200 mcg of Chromium Picolinate. It helps with blood sugar levels. He says this is helpful w/ reference to cravings and avoid fat storage, etc. Other things I have experimented with on my own and have gotten variable results with include: CLA, ACetyl L-Carnitne and R-Lipoic Acid. However, all of these things seem to give me more energy and that is appreciated when exercising regularly. BTW...magnesium can help with muscle cramping and I do take this, along with calcium. In addition, cinnamon and green tea are two natural products that are likely to help slightly with fat burning. There is a "newish" product called Fucoxanthin (not sure, but I think it is seaweed). It is said to be a slight stimulant and might help with water retention. I have heard that some folks are helped by 5-htp if they over-eat because they are under stress. However, I don't think you can take this product if you are taking certain prescription medications including antidepressants. I primarily focus on: Chromium Picolinate and Cinnamon when it comes to possible weight loss supplements. They are natural, etc. I would use the Green Tea, but since I am prone to headaches...I am limited with this item. I do make myself a cup now and then and order it when I go out sometimes. Of course, if you put sugar in it, etc. all bets are off. Generally...I really like my multi, Vit. D and B's. They are my "overall" most important vitamins. Honestly, I don't think anything can truly beat a very healthy diet that is low to moderate in calories, low in fat, high in fiber and low in sugar. This plus exercise, fresh water....good living...should cover most of it. HOwever, as we all know...many obstacles can get in the way, etc. Last edited by Vowel Lady; 08-31-2008 at 05:07 PM. |

i think it's prudent to check with your dr about adding any additional vitamins, minerals or supplements, especially any herbs. which i don't see that you have.
the reason is that sometimes OTC meds/supplements can counteract some meds we take. it's best to check with even the pharmacist about this. and, i wouldn't suggest starting them all at once. if something doesn't agree with you, you won't know which med it is. start with once at a time. then add something else. also, there are some juices that interfere or alter the effect of meds. like OJ, apple juice and grapefruit juice. i'd check that out IF you drink juice with your meds. best to take them with just water.
