Cool LOL... Hockey!

LOL - Laughing Out Loud
ROFL - Rolling On Floor Laughing
ROFLMAO (sometimes ROTFLMAO) - Rolling On (The) Floor Laughing my A-- Off

then there's all the family abbreviations which got me no end at first...

DD - dear daughter
DH - dear husband
BIL/SIL - brother/sister in law
FIL/MIL - father/mother in law

etc you get the idea.

then there's the doctors.

T is often used for Therapist
tdoc also used for Therapist
pdoc - psychiatrist
Epi - epileptologist
mdoc or GP - one's general doctor
NP - Nurse Practitioner (they can prescribe meds) - some see an NP instead of a general doc

BP - "traditionally" used here to mean Bipolar. and people sometimes think of it as two parts and may even write Bi Polar (technically it is one word). anyway that is how BP gets used here.

beware when reading elsewhere -the most common abbreviation for Bipolar Disorder is BD.

PD - Personality Disorder
BPD - Borderline Personality Disorder
NPD - Narcissistic Personality Disorder
PPD - Paranoid PD
et al.

NOS - Not Otherwise Specified, eg:

BD-NOS or
Bipolar NOS - Bipolar Disorder, Not Otherwise Specified (i.e. not type 1 or 2)
PD-NOS - Personality Disorder, Not Otherwise Specified (no specific disorder applies accurately)

OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
ADD - Attention Deficit Disorder
ADHD or AD(H)D - Attention Deficity/Hyperactivity Disorder

SI - Self Injury

CBT - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

i thought we had an abbreviations thread... maybe that was before... on OBT... ummm ok... and that too...

OBT - (not a type of therapy LOL). This stands for Old BrainTalk - the forum several of us posted to, in reference to its 2005 and older incarnations, not the current one.

ok i will start a thread. others please add any other missing/useful abbreviations to the new thread. thank you.

Bless you Waves!

I'm printing out your acronym post and sticking it to computer. I feel like I just learned a third language. (I also speak pig latin.)

Cheers

I pasted the stuff from the post above into a new thread yesterday, and then i also edited/added to that post, so it is much more complete than the post in this thread.

here's the link to the thread:

Common Acronyms/Abbreviations, as used on forum

glad to be of service!
