Default Yes,Yes

That's it. You got it. Back in 1997,we had a gosh awful bad snow storm to. It was a El Nino event. It also goes back to 1988 where we had three deep snow storms.

I believe it causes wind sheer events that decreases the intensity of the hurricanes on the Atlantic coast of America where I am. We didn't have to many hurricanes last fall, and I think they went mostly to the north, and they where not as severe.

After the El Nino, comes the La Nino. The La Nino has a opposite affect where the waters off the South American coast in the Pacific cool down. There are maps that show where these different weather El Nino/La Nina conditions affect.

Also the Solar Flare Cycle 24 is about a year late. The Solar flare cycle has been at a minimum for about 2 years now. The solar output affects the solar system in many ways. A solar flare cycle lasts about 11 years.

Oh me. I'm not a expert, but I love science. BF

I'm really lost with all this talk.

But I can say this. I really remember lots of the snowstorms that hit here.

And I'm pretty sure they still are coming.

Heart Donna and Steve

Dear Donna...

please excuse us weather techies, hehe!

But yeah, the snowing you remember had to do with El Niño for sure. There is increased precipitation in the US/wintertime. i was living in California at that time, and what i remember is flooding. so much rain that three reservoirs dumped into the valley. to get around you needed a boat or a gondola any more instead of a car. so much access blocked off. i used to go regularly to Barnes and Noble at night (had a starbucks inside) for book browsing and coffee. And i know a couple times i got turned back by cops - road closed for flooding. (which really sucked for me, because at the time that was my late-at-night, feelin' kinda blue, go out and feel better thing to do.)

Hey i went to quote your post from Abbie's thread to reply in here, but it was gone, lol. Anyway I read that you think you are feeling better. that is great to hear. you mentioned you go backwards sometimes... hopefully only minor setbacks. if you have full relapses though, i would call the doctor. i was wanting to know how you were so i was glad to see the post even momentarily, lol.

Dear Steve...

I enjoy this stuff too. i cross posted to the weather thread. and i added a post showing animated maps of the pacific anomalies. that is interesting about the solar flares. i wonder how "regular" those have been and what the lateness implies. El Niño is irregular, but i don't know about the flares. that was new to me. (again thanks.)

i hope tonight is kind to you Steve.

Waves The 11 year solar flare cycles have been fairly regular since about 1950. Right around 1958,the sun's output was the brightest that it's ever been recorded.

Click on "Sunspot CYCLE Charts",on Google. It shows you charts of the years of Solar Cycles, and their peaks.

So many things affect the weather, both space, and planetary. BF

Waves & Brokenfriend

I just was enjoying the weather information. But I got lost, so continue.

The thing is one of the weather messes, we had a ice storm, in March.
It made us have no electricity for about a month. My kids didn't get
to go to school either for 3 weeks. They had to make it up over the month
of June. They did luckily get their Spring Vacation, even though many in our area thought our schools should take this away from them.

They had just endured 3 weeks of nothing, but having darkness, no electricity.
And in many cases they had to figure out how to take cold baths and showers, or go to friends. It was a awful time for us.
So I'm hoping its not going to be one of those.

We have also had many times of the Snow Storms that left much snow,
much damage, and no electricity or other things. So I'm not looking forward
to that either.

So lets hope we don't get it as bad.

Donna

Every thing is interesting until the power goes out. When it gets cold you don't care about light,or food anymore. Back in 1997 when the power went out I didn't have any resources to get warm. I haven't forgotten about it either.

I have those heat pads that hunters use. I have two portable propane heaters, and a Carbon Monoxide detector. I have a car. I lived in a apartment with no fire place. I don't have a fire place available to me now.

It's only the ice storms that knock out the power, for the most part. The last thing that I did was fill my car with gas before we got the 20 inches of snow a couple of weeks ago. I bought bagels,D batterys, and small propane tanks. I was fortunate. The electricity did not go out,or even flicker in this last snow storm. BF

Dear Friend,
I wonder if others have concerns regarding electricity as much as those of us with anxiety do.
Or maybe after someone has been through one tough storm they are more likely to think about being prepared in case there is another.

Default ummm... when there is no heat...

and the outside temps are consistently in the teens ... the indoor temps decline very rapidly.

You don't die from lack of light.

People HAVE died from cold
... right in there homes.

It is worse than having the power go out during, say, a hurricane... in a warm climate. lack of light does not threaten one's existence. also freezing cold running water when it's already freezing cold does not offer a way to warm up either. that is if any water is running... depending if the supply is electrically pumped or not, and whether pipes freeze.

Food is an issue, but in our day it is pretty likely for people to have something to eat at home that doesn't require light/heat to consume, even if they haven't expected an outage. It is much likely one will just so "happen" have ways of producing heat without electricity... unless one has given it some thought. We have space heaters, for instance... but they are electric.

i daresay nobody who has been through one of these horrific experiences is going to want to repeat it and will take preventive measures they can to offset the possible storm impact - particularly on temperature.

i can see where those with anxiety might worry more... and possibly make preparations sooner and prepare better than others, but not necessarily if for instance they are also depressed.
