On Friday around 6 PM,we had a really bad storm, like most on the East Coast. Tree limbs are still on telephone wires,Trees where uprooted, and the forest areas are loaded with damage.
This county is building a new Fire Station, and allot of it's construction material was blown across the road from the Friday night storm. There was a storm about a month ago that blew down trees, and tossed limbs everywhere. These storms have been happening for thousands of years on the planet. We don't have records of the storms that happened two hundred years ago,or before. There was a medieval warm period in the North Atlantic region, and including the China area from 950 AD to 1250 AD. It was followed by a cooler period in the North Atlantic termed the Little Ice Age. Some call it the Medieval Climate Anomaly. Can you imagine the horrible storms back in those days that are not recorded. There where also climate changes 4,000 years ago. Think of the storms that they had. BF:hug::hug::hug: |
Steve,
I DO feel lucky when we can face the power of storms with knowledge and perspective and technology. I had been aware of the recent storms in your area. I am glad that you are o.k. Mari. |
Mari I agree. It's also nice that we can talk about weather from the past, because we don't have agendas, and we aren't making money by scaring people with books, and lectures.
I truly don't know what the weather is doing. There is so much hype. I am concerned about the Atomic reactors in Japan that are leaking into the ground water, streams, fish, and ocean. I don't know to much about that. BF:hug::hug::hug: |
My part of Indiana has had much flooding. Thankfully not me.
But Kokomo got hit bad and so did Lafayette. And my little town was too. But luckily not my house. I am still getting lots of rain in and out daily. Its been going on daily and not daily. Ugh, I'm tired of rain. So lets hope we see sunshine soon. Donna:hug::grouphug: |
lunar eclipse. "pink" moon.
We have a full moon and a lunar eclipse Thursday, April 25.
cool graphic --- http://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/lunar/2013-april-25 It looked gorgeous tonight. Mari |
* The Moon is under the horizon during this eclipse, so it is not possible to view it in Lafayette.( where I live).
It is cloudy tonight. rats. bizi |
Bizi,
Those of us in the U.S. will miss the eclipse. I hope you see the full moon Thursday night. After I came home from work in the dark I stood in the drive way and raised my arms to its power and thanked it. M |
I love this!

It was truly a huge beautiful moon. Reminded my of the harvest moon in October.
Wish it old have been this coming week out on the ocean. Still so cool here. Frost the other night, days almost 60*, ready for the warmth nd sun! |
Full moon and a lunar eclipse
Hi,
The Lunar Eclipse occurs on May 24, 2013 at 9:26 pm PDT / on May 25 at 12:26 am EDT/ May 25 at 4:26 am GMT. http://www.hngn.com/articles/3364/20...ible-naked.htm Mari |
I saw the full moon last night. I'm also glad that the category 5 tornado didn't hit any Atomic Reactors. That would have made it a lasting disaster. I'm concerned about Atomic Reactors. They aren't safe. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Hi BF
I am making a spiral universe in mosaics. In it is the atomic fusion. It is the only thing in it that I don't think we should have ever done. It will say."Eat not of the tree of Knowledge" My dad worked on electirical switches that had something to do with the testing in Nevada. He met Einstein, and told me when I was a young women he regrets us learing about fusion. Why does mankind think he can control the stars? ginnie:grouphug:

hi Ginnie
Ginnie,
I am confused why you find fusion so upsetting? I wonder if you might clarify? Granted the experiments on fusion are not free of danger... but the aim is clean energy. Your mention of the stars suggests you did indeed mean fusion specifically, but I didn't understand the comment about control of the stars? Scientists are trying to replicate what happens in stars, so as to produce energy in a cleaner, safer way than we do today. Currently I am sure you know nuclear fission is used, and has been for years, not just for arms of mass destruction but also for electrical power plants ... with devastating consequences when there are accidents (eg. Chernobyl), due to massive reaction containment failure. I find the continued use of nuclear fission as an energy source much more upsetting than research on fusion. waves |
Hi waves
, I am not in favor of fusion. I know mankind is trying to produce cleaner energy, however we cannot control what we create. Look at all the reactors that are closed due to earth quakes, sunamis etc. We also cannot store the by product waste well. That stuff will be around for eternity.
My dad, saw the neuclear tests in Nevada. He worked on the Manhattin project in Chicago, where I was raised. He regreted mankind learned how to do this. A super Nova, the result of fusion is not something we are smart enough to control. When accidents stop, maybe I will change my mind. I don't trust humans as history is full of failures. We can use solar, and wind technology to a greater effectiveness. I live in Florida for heavens sake, ...just why is solar so expensive noone around me can afford it????? That is silly. We could be generating solar power for other states as well. All the sunshine states, have the ability to generate enough power for the entire country. The electric companies are not thrilled about that....greed. Mankind has always thought themselves smart. Look at N. Korea, threatening to use nukes, I personnally don't like the idea that we can destroy the whole earth with that stuff. No, I wish they never existed. My neighbors built a bomb shelter with the Cuban Missle crisis, I still remember my parents fear. My father always knew more than the average joe, as he was involved somehow with all that developement. To this day I don't know all he did. I do remember many of his remarks. I just don't think we can control what the stars do without danger to the rest of mankind. Personnal opinion, nothing more. Love you waves....ginnie:grouphug: |
Hi Mari
I like hearing from you too. I am doing OK. I have been out in the yard, sitting on my butt sweating alot, doing yard work. My yard is a semi tropical jungle, that was getting out of control. The former owners of this place put in Mexican Petunias. BAD choice, as 15 year later, not one corner of the yard was free of them. So I sit and pull them up, one by one.
I had to giggle as some new neighbors who put in a whole row of them out in from of their re-moddled house. That is going to be a battle to keep them in the beds. They spred very easily. Also been to my sons house, pulling the same darn plant. Roots go down about 8 inches. So round-up has to be used for any that make a re-appearence. Hands hurt so I use voltaren Gel, which helps me get through the gardening. I do love being in the yard. I started very early this year, Feb. 1st. when it was still rather cold. So now it is the upkeep. I was on the garden tour years ago. I planted 7 new Bananas this year and I can't wait for the results. I play the banana fairy, giving them to all my neighbors, and make them banana bread quite often. Too busy this year for tomatoes. I have Key lime tree, lemon, and red grapefruit tree. Only the lemon in producing this year. Needed fert, which I didn't do, and a good pruning. That is my life these days, and I am ever so grateful, that I can go outside and do these things. Before my spinal fusion, I couldn't do anything at all out there. So I do appreciate this freedom. At night I come in tired, read a bit, and sleep good. Let me know what you are reading, and what you are up to these days. I am reading "The Story Teller" now, really a good read. xxginnie:grouphug: |
Ginnie thanks I get where you are coming from now

I just don't understand a lot of things about war... I can't relate to desiring mass destruction... and what twisted mind would venture to explode something when it is now known the winds will take the waste who knows where - possibly even back to the aggressor. I don't even see ANY sort of logic in that! (And then they say we are the ones needing medication...) Quote:
I have mixed feelings about fusion... I know it would be the difference between night and day compared to fission, but I do agree we have easier, and less "sensitive" alternatives. I am against the continued use of fission, which we are actively using. It IS messy AND dangerous. I think they should shut down ALL the existing reactors and place an international ban on nuclear weapons... but how could one ever enforce that... sigh. :o good to see you and thanks for taking the time to share, and to explain to me, Ginnie. :):hug::hug: waves |
thanks waves
cool that you listened and kinda see where I am coming from. I guess I am scared that humans track record isn't so good.
I really want the developement of wind and solar. We have all the tecky stuff we need for that, yet we gotta have another messy oil line coming down through the states. I think solar would be cheaper and so would wind. The gulf of mexico is windy!!!!!!! Nope gotta have the oil line. good grief waves, I just think we all could do better developing those things that cause the least damage. My dad had cancer three times, the last taking his life. He viewed the first tests in Nevada, ya know the one they just wore glasses? He wasn't thrilled over it, and he did drink all his life. I think it was because of what he was involved in. I think he knew mankind was ripe to mess up! What I do hope for is more along the lines of Ion energy for our space missions. I want us to continue going, where no man has been before. Lets drag an asteroid home, that has elements we need on earth, Lets go to Mars, and set up a base, lets take a trip and discover, more of what is out there. That is what I really want mankind to do, put the brain to better use!!!! Love ya waves, ginnie |
I don't know anything about this, but it's a possible "clean energy" for the future. It's called "Laser Fusion Power" that the US,and Britain joined forces as of 2011 to create.
It creates a hug flash. They say that a stadium sized building housing a array of 192 lasers which fire a 500-terawatt flash at a drop of hydrogen atoms just 1 mm across creates tremendous power. I don't know anything about this, but they say it's" Clean energy". There is research going on now about this type of energy. They would have to fight the petroleum, and the nuclear industries to get it started probably. Greed!!! BF:hug::hug::hug: |

May 25 lunar eclipse
Quote:
The Eclipse was from 3:53:15 UTC to 4:26:49 UTC, with maximum at 4:09:58 UTC. (From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_2013_lunar_eclipse) I had put the wrong time on my calendar... but I was asleep throughout, anyway. Wiki says, of this eclipse "It will be visually imperceptible due to the small entry into the penumbral shadow." Mari's source, like other sources I'd consulted previously, seemed to indicate that it would be visible, so, I'm not sure what Wiki means by "imperceptible!" perhaps they mean general brightness? Anyway, did anybody catch this eclipse... maybe with a telescope? waves |

Whatever they do,they need to stop using nuclear power period. It's a dangerous long acting hazardous material, and we cannot afford another disaster. It will slowly, but surely poison the ground water on Earth. Maybe not in our lifetime. Radiation also goes into milk. It's madness to think that we can handle nuclear power. Our decision makers have to think about the future of our planet before another nuclear disaster. The stock pilled "spent nuclear rods" are emitting radiation, probably into the ground water where ever they are stored. Let me stop here on this subject. I hope that every one has a nice Memorial Day. My car is working. I also put another battery in my cars remote controller. I got next to the car,and pressed the Lock, and unlock buttons on the remote control close to the car for 7 seconds. This reprogrammed the remote, and I can unlock the doors, pop the trunk again. BF:hug::hug::hug: |
Steve,
My problem with nuclear power is that we have no good system to store nuclear waste. From 2008 http://www.scientificamerican.com/ar...-nuclear-waste Quote:

THis all was very interesting.
Now I have to add. I loved Ginny's account of her gardening. Keep telling us about it please. And what you get when. Its very interesting. Maybe even a new thread, because this one takes a while to load. Also its very cool here. Ugh, I'm ready for some warm weather. Donna:hug::grouphug: |
Hi Dmom
Glad you liked my account of gardening. I am a slave to the yard. The yard rules, and I go along for the ride. It rewards me with great beauty, that stops the depression and negative thoughts in their tracks!.
I am taking out one very nasty bush. It has 5 inch long needles that jab at every opportunity, and leave some posien behind. Never liked it, and it is time to get rid of it. Jabbed myself a few times yesterday. Can pronounce it, but probably have the wrong spelling. Called reclonada. The bush from hell.... Need rain down here too. We missed rain the last two months. What april showers? May, no way, now june....I hope..... Back out at this. I do have an android with picture taking ability. I will find out how to do this and post all of you a picture. The walk way is a tropical paradise, and very inviting. Time to get back to that evil bush....ginnie |

cold snap - very cold... upsetting plants and animals
We've been having a cold snap here. And I do mean COLD. This is totally wacky weather for our region, in MAY! :o I mean, the other day it SNOWED in an area not too far from us. We just had howling winds, cold rain, and temps in the lower 40's. That was daytime. In the night it may have sunk to the upper 30's. Pretty wild. :o
We are flabbergasted but also somewhat thankful that we do not already have the sweltering heat which, without airconditioning becomes quite insufferable after about a month... and it usually lasts several months. I used to tolerate heat very well, but I think it's been since I gained weight that I am much more bothered by it - causes me immense fatigue. So I'm ok with this in the big picture, even though I'm sitting here going BRRRRRR, BRRRRR. They have forecast another storm front and more bad weather around the corner, but it doesn't look like it is going to be as cold. They reported this cold is killing bees :( and causing harm to plant population both directly and d/t reduced pollination. That part makes me sad. :o naturally the mosquitoes are surviving just FINE.:mad: waves |
cold front for may....weird weather.
it has been in the80's all week. and humidity. hot! welcome to summer! bizi |
Steve so glad the car is back and remote working too! They are so handy when working, and frustrating when not.
I agree Mari, we live about 15 miles as the crow flies from a nuclear plant. I had some security work I did there. Escorting and saw how scary it cold be. The rods are changed out by scuba divers every 18 months to refuel. They are monitored to how much exposure they can have during the procedure and lifetime. The rods are only stable while in the water. They had a 40 year license because that is all the storage room they had. Latest I heard noe it is extended with another storage area onsite to be used. Freaks me out because along the Susquehanna River they use water to fill the cooling pond we have had small earthquakes. That one last year felt like he cats were rocking my recliner. If they become exposed........yikes! We have drills for evacuation, the iodine etc, because of the proximity. Wish it was never put here. If they used the land and went geothermal and solar would be better. Now there is talk of running a second natural gasline along our southern property line thru the mountain. Weather wise rain tomorrow, sun and HEAT HEAT HEAT in The days to follow! Off to sleep I hope...crazy dreams with snakes. One time it got caught in door, cut in two bug lunged at me. Then last night I got bit three times. The one with all the restrooms filthy and people of both sexes hanging out I read was clutter in the life to clean out. Black snakes is grief, and unfinished business. Something I am suppressing that needs to be taken care of. Well, see if I can fight off the slimy things from my Dreams tonight. |
Someone needs to tell Indiana its summer time.
We haven't had the weather in a while. I'm ready for it back. Ugh, its been so cool. And now its rainy, which is fine. Now its cool still. And I don't know. Donna:grouphug::hug: |
Hey Di
Dear Di
It would freak me out too knowing about those waste storage rods in the water, and having earthquakes. When I came to Europe I noticed many - in fact the majority of people young and old had sparse hair. first I thought it was due to the crazy fashion trends and over-dying but some were just too young for that even. I am talking people 20 years old and with a part over a half inch wide... and just being able to see lots of scalp. All I could figure was it had to be from mild radiation poisoning... from Chernobyl, even though I do not live ANYWHERE NEAR that actual area.... the dust clouds got carried freaking everywhere. :( Some of the people would have been very small kids when it happened. I see that the youth now, 13 years later, seem to have fuller heads of hair which rules out my "hair abuse" theory because they are still doing that like crazy. ------------- Those sound like very uncomfortable dreams you are having. It's interesting your rest-room dream interpretation - I have had similar dreams from time to time in the past and never knew what to make of them. I think you may have hit the nail on the head! Anyway, I do hope you are able to sort things out and start having more peaceful nights, with pleasant dreams. (((hugs))) waves |
starting anew weather thread. please post on that this one is too long donna said it took a long time to load.

The people who made these reactors didn't seem to care to much about the earthquakes fault lines in those areas. I have a Nuclear Power plant one county over from my county. The epicenter of the 5.8,or 5.9 earthquake that we had two years ago was in that very county. I've had some strange nightmares myself in the last month. It's a mystery. BF:hug::hug::hug: |
I'll be going to the other weather thread now. BF:hug::hug::hug:
