Hi, Waves,
I am not exactly afraid of them but they ick me out. They feel weird and squirly. By the way, we might not have the same kind that you are thinking about. http://www.wildflorida.com/wildlife/...nean_Gecko.php This is the kind we get around here. It is native to Europe. I just checked on the one on the other side of the door. I opened the door a crack (it is dark out and light in here). He is still there. If I open the door he will come in and I do not believe I will be skillful enough to pick him up. I tell hubby that they eat spiders and keep the place nice for us. Both us are disappointed when we find a dead lizard. Mari |
Dear Mari
I've seen (but not heard!) these critters! :) They are mild mannered but can bite. I would handle them pretty much like any other lizard with a little more caution about the bite (i have been bitten by other lizards, it's like having a hair pin attached to your finger. no blood. i've read geckos have a mean bite though - might wear hand protection or in any case not put fingers in their face.) perhaps the best thing to do with your guest is leave it there. if you think hubby will try to kill it :( you could try and move it during the day time hours when it is less active. if you decide to do that, make the attempt from outside the house, shutting the inner door behind you. i have often used paper cups and cardboard to capture small creatures - anything too small/delicate for me to catch without hurting, or stuff i'm a bit wary of like insects or spiders. you could wear rubber or garden gloves if you're concerned about being bitten. you need to be very gentle, move in slowly and be careful not to make the "gotcha" move so suddenly that the rim of the cup maims the animal. :o bear in mind, if it panics you end up with 2 pieces - a tail-less, panicky gecko and a gecko-less, jumping tail. this is "normal" - the tail mostly regenerates - takes 3 weeks. i'd probably let it alone so it catches bugs and keeps its tail, especially if hubby doesn't open that window and won't likely notice it and murder it promptly. i don't get that he kills them, but feels sad when he finds a dead one? that's like 1+1 = 1 ? ~ waves ~ |
on cathing lizzards and geckos
I have been doing this since I was a child. Even lost a gold earing in Jackson vill trying to catch one,
A butterfly net works quite well too. A towel thown over the baby works too. It is too heavy for them to squirm out of it. Most of these small lizzards bite but can't hurt you. It just startles you. I have a live in gecko who has lived with me for years. Evidently he has a way in and out of the house. I also caught an iguana who escaped from some person that was 3 feet long. Got him on first try. I was in animal resue for the last 7 or 8 years, and worked with an agency to help sick animals. ginnie:grouphug: |
Temperature Report
At 12:30 pm the temperature is 60 degrees.
I had the heat on a little bit during the night. Mari |
It is 49 degrees out. Much cooler than it has been. This is probably our last cool snap before spring. Mr. Butterfly is mowing the yard as I speak. It's pretty funny because he's wearing a flannel shirt and a knit cap.

We get out the winter clothes for these days and we all look different from our usual selves. :D I have been watching the weather like a geek. Can you believe that the temperature just went down one degree in the last hour? What is that! It feels cold. M |
Wow, 49 would be so welcome in my area. I am not sure what the degree is here.
I was snowing yesterday, and it was sticking here at my house and lots of the area. Not enjoying this change in weather. I need to spring clean, But I don't like to winter clean. Today so far no snow, and its nicer outside, but a little nippy.:grouphug::winky: donna |

I hope it warms up for you soon Donna! :);)
you have had more than your share of cold and difficult weather in your parts! :o :hug: ~ waves ~ |
spring foreboding...
i have a confession...
even though i like the pretty aspects of spring, and the pleasant weather, i don't generally look forward to it! :o:rolleyes: too many issues with it... first, i often get depressed with the advent of spring. :Noooo: i am not specifically seasonal in my cycling overall and this doesn't always happen, but i've had enough spring depressions to have a sense of foreboding ever february. second, spring = flowers = pollens = allergies = coughing and sinus. :Noooo: What's worse, this year i've already started d/t cause unknown - spring will make it even worse. :( third, they took my antihistamine off the market!!!! now i have to experiment WaaaaaAAHHHH!!!:hissyfit: lastly, the public transport system here does not "handle" spring and fall well... they leave the heat on sometimes, a/c on sometimes, other times nothing... and it is not weather coordinated let alone coordinated from one vehicle to another... ya never know wutcher gonna git! :hissyfit:  but it's less like a box of chocolates and more like a box of all-flavor beans, a magical candy in the Harry Potter series. Anyone care to try an ear-waxed flavored bean? ~ waves ~ |
Waves,
I find it interesting that the spring is difficult for you. YOu have mentioned this before. Each of the four points is strong enough on its own. Get some meds and be prepared to try something for your missing antihistamine. Quote:

for this season i am going to try that stuff anyway, make sure it works. for chronic use i can use that and save the 4 hour pills of the old stuff for "emergencies" of course i can only do that until they expire. i have searched city wide and one pharmacy searched a database for province-wide availability in small-town pharmacies. NADA!!!! :( i can appreciate (but am not happy about!) the situation with sudafed, d/t morons making meth out of it. but chlorpheniramine is not sed for recreational purposes much less illicit ones! haven't these people heard of if it ain't broke don't fix it? :Demonstration: Quote:
...sort of. see, as much as i dislike the nitty gritty of public trans, the traffic in the city is SO DENSE, and the pollution is SO bad... they actually have days where they ban circulation to preserve air quality. i'm not crazy about adding to the problem. but i do love your princess/goddess idea! :p  :Dancing-Chilli: i wouldn't mind a horse-driven carriage... might take a while to get places, but... hey... the only emissions you get from "true horsepower" can be used to fertilize the fields... hehe. now what i'd reaaaally love... ............is a magic carpet! :) :) :) http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/929...deapowtcby.jpg |

Hi waves
I hear you about spring being a bit hard on the old alergies. Yuck. I got an inhaler for the nose, that also helps the entire breathing, lungs and all. Called Qnasl. I still can't find a program for medicaid part D that will cover it. Cost is up there a bit. I use it spareingly, and low and behold the sneezing stops, and my sinus is clear. Lasts for almost 24 hours for a few puffs. I had gone to my doc. unable to clear my sinus at all, and actually had some asthma thrown in for good measure. I also take singular occassionaly, which nips it quick.
Heck I am alergic to myself..... Hope this day finds you doing OK. I went to pain management yesterday. I have been doing quite well up until last thursday. I was too tired to work and over did it. Picking up a bag of mulch, I went over the top of it, landed hard, jarred my spinal fusion bracket. Much inflamation, and I sure hope it isn't permanent. Selling this place as I said comes with some real hard work, that maybe I should not be doing. That is what sends me manic. I have to find someplace to live that I can handle. I hate to think of Hud housing. I think about all of you. Hope your days are peaceful. We get by with a little help from our friends, as the beatles say. Take care waves, mari and gang. ginnie:grouphug: |

i don't know if i have a form of asthma but i do have a cavernous cough and can sometimes have breath problems. i have a nebulizer for which my mdoc prescribed steroids and albuterol (typical asthma meds) but my mdoc doesn't want to give me an inhaler (much more useful when i'm out and about and have a coughing fit - can't use the nebulizer then). i am going to get me to a pulmonologist - if that guy ok's it my doc will give me an inhaler. well we'll see. if the pulmonologist says i don't need an inahler, he had better provide some good answers/solutions for me because i've ruled out stuff like anxiety (taken hefty dose of lorazepam - no effect). stuff, and not just allergies, messes with my breathing and brings out the tuba-cough. ~ waves ~ |
ouch!

I sure hope the inflammation goes down quick Ginnie. And I hope you get done soon with the things you are doing. You need to get to your new house in ONE PIECE, woman!! ;):D :hug::hug: ~ waves ~ |
qnasl and singular
Yep waves, I use both together when I can't breathe good. I just started with this asthma thing again after 25 years being OK. I don't know what kicked it off either. Try them together if you can. The qnasl, when I hold my breath, it does travel down the old breathing tubes. It does help. This alergy stuff is for the birds. Also have an air-purifier in my bedroom, close to the bed. Takes out 99% of the pollen, dander and dust. Doc recommended that too.
Hope you get relief soon. xxginnie:hug: |
Re: falling over
I got put on dexamethasone for five days. I jarred that blasted bracket, I actually heard a crunching sound. Verterbre below the fusion site are rather testy. the last thing I need in for more of those things to go out!!!!
Did some mild yard work, sitting on my butt today. Have to do it before the heat of summer or the yard will eat me alive! Med. makes me a bit jittery. Hope I will heal OK. Thanks for caring. It was my own stupid fault working while I was too tired to do so. My ankles arn't so good and lifting isn't either. I should have known better. xxginnie:hug: |
Ginnie,
This is a good time to garden. The humidity is low. Take it easy and be careful. M |

antihistamines... sigh
Dear Mari
Quote:
Most people have long switched to 2nd generation antihistamines with a longer half life and more "convenient" 2ce daily dosing. The extended release products of the old antihistamines have a better chance of competing with those. Fwiw, I've tried 3 of the 2nd generation antihists, none worked. I even tried double dosing Zyrtek a few times (after reading that it was done in clinical trials without horrible consequences)... no difference. I don't think many people use "stronger" doses of chlorpheniramine the way I did. Most people who would need them probably have an asthma dx and separate treatment. In order to avoid poop out, i also prefer a short-acting drug i can use sparingly. Only occasionally do I take stuff continuously for several days. There may be other 1st gen antihistamines still available but - brompheniramine (Dimetapp), which at one time worked for me, is not one of them; Benadryl has unpredictable effects on me - it can make me real sleepy or give me paradoxical agitation with odds of the latter increasing with dosage. I had nasty agitation once and would be afraid to use > 25mg at a time. I'd prefer a shot of adrenaline, quite honestly!:hug::hug: ~ waves ~ |
pollution, mass transportation

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_low_emission_zone There is something similar to that here - the circulation bans are a separate, emergency measure. Quote:
A great number of people carpooled at my workplace (and that was a big company). Also there were days of popular initiative, where folks were encouraged to bike or walk to work. My workplace held parties to sponsor these initiatives and flex time helped make the travel time acceptable. (Conversely, flex time also allowed me to come and go at times when I could legally use the carpool lane for passing! ROFL :D:cool:) ~ waves ~ |

http://www.emofaces.com/en/smilies/f...rpet-smile.gif Departure and destination is on command of course! I think we'd have to chill regarding arrival times and trip details... far as I know magic carpets auto-navigate! :D;) They take the time they take. I should not dare ask one to "step on it" or it could be more than a rough ride - we could wind up hanging on by our fingernails... Mine are cut very short - not hangable-on-by! :Noooo: I hope you are not suggesting we have a voice interface installed on our carpet, so we can interrogate it or have it narrate the trip??? That would take the magic out of it... :o ... dontcha think? ;) ~ waves ~ |
Heehee Waves
On this very snowy day in my neck of the woods. Your post was very funny. Trying to decide what to do about Derrick's Doctor's appt for his shot. I am worried about driving it. I think I will cancel it. Donna:grouphug::hug: |
then gosh when would I reschedule it for.
So maybe not. Just be careful Donna. I can drive in this. Not sure yet, but I think about 5 inches here at my house. Kids home today.:grouphug: Donna |
Crazy weather all over. I seem to be sitting above the line of heavy stuff as it falls on those I work with. Down in DC and Baltimore they were really forgetting weather related emergency call outs were a huge risk for me. Now they get a taste of my winter.
No where to go tonight, or tomorrow, so I can stay warm and dry. Well, until Friday when the back end twist back into our area, The wind is really coming off the mountain the gust are creeping and creeking threw the roof. Turned up the heat a bit. Stay safe Donna! |
Hi waves
You called that medication correctly, it is the jitterbug. I am shakey as the dose went up today. Just not sure with bi-polar if this is good for me. Seems to be making me agitated and nervous in an abnormal way. Stomach queeze. Is all that normal?. This feels more like prednisone which I don't react to very well either.
Sitting out today, no work just rest. I have 5 days on this then taper. I go back next monday. Gonna be an icky week. We sure do put up with stuff don't we??? Take care of yourself too Waves. Love all of you. ginnie:grouphug: |
Di
I will stay as safe as I can. I have to take Derrick to get his last shot. I have debated cancelling, but I really hate to do that. Because I messed up the last time with this series and he had to start all over. And I don't want that to happen again. And then Devin's meds need picked up and I just offered to do that. It looks like its stopped for now so it should be safe. We will see as it gets closer. Donna:grouphug::hug: |
To Donna
You are a brave and kind mother, Donna.
I wish you safe travels on these important errands you are undertaking for both your children. Afterwards I hope you get some time to kick back and relax indoors, maybe with a cup of cocoa.   ~ waves ~ |
Well my husband was nice enough to take Derrick and I.
But I'm very mad to say the least at the school nurse. Seems she had a conversation with the nurses in the office in January. And Derrick has had all the shots he needs. And she was supposed to call me and let me know. So why he still had an appt I do not know. But that doesn't matter near as much as the fact that the nurse didn't let me know. So I had told the nurse, that I either needed a note or something stating the fact he had enough shots and nothing more was needed. Or she would put him out of school. Or he was to get the shot anyway. So she went and talked to the doctor. Came back with a note from him, and the list of when his shots were. And said. That the nurse could take this and if it didn't work. Then well I don't usually say those words. But we all three had a laugh. We went after Devin's meds, then ran a couple of errands and had a nice time. And then went 4-wheeling in his new truck. So it was nice. Donna:hug::grouphug: |
It was sunny today and I went out!
Hi everyone,
Today was fairly nippy, but otherwise it was a clear, sunny day. I managed to get out! :) I got today's cooking done by 1pm, covered everything, then went to the store. When i was on a low carb diet, I ate my way through all my mom's Wasa crackers (very low carbs, and lots of fiber). So I went to replace those. I brought home some perks for me too: beer, hot dogs, and these little crunchy bread twists with fennel seed. I forced myself to pick between the fennel seed kind and the cayenne pepper kind (as opposed to buying both, as I was strongly inclined to do)! I let availability choose for me - there were lots of cayenne pepper ones, so I figured I could get those next time. So yes... I went OUT! I got out of the HOUSE! Yaaaaaay!! :Dancing-Chilli: Monday I am thinking of going to get new glasses. ~ waves ~ |
Waves, :)
I love beautiful days!! You did great choosing the fennel over the cayenne. Fennel tastes better anyway although I am sure that the cayenne tastes fine. Have fun picking out new glasses. Mari |
getting a new prescription and dark lenses
Dear Mari
I have a gazillion frames so I will not be "picking out" anything at all! :o:( The decisions I have to make are expensive ones but not fun ones. :( Well they are about as fun as jumping off a cliff and hoping a cloud will sail conveniently by and let you land on it. (a cloud, ... or a magic carpet :D;) But, I digress.) I am not looking forward to this acquisition process. My needs have become complicated. I need solutions for each of the following: -- distance vision, photochromatic -- computer-distance vision, photochromatic (or light tint) -- distance vision, dark for migraines -- computer-distance vision, dark for migraines My dad went to the shop I intend to try, and was happy with the results. I will go there and if she still has the trial offer dealy on progressives I will try them. I know many people rave over them but I am not keen, and my dad hated them. We shall see... certainly they kill two birds with one stone and I have more birds than most! My last script came from an opthalmologist and he screwed it up. I've had prior problems here with the actual lenses becoming cloudy... stupid stuff. Currently, I am wearing a pair of glasses that were made up for me in California about 15 years ago - yeah, these are the most functional ones I own! So wish me luck getting at least one functional solution here! ;) ----------------- about the WEATHER ;) We are supposed to get SNOW tomorrow and Monday so that will be interesting. Snow does not bother me but I have been a real homebody and have not gone out in it this year. Maybe this Monday I can make it to the eye place here in town, with the snow as an incentive. :Dancing-Chilli: ~ waves ~ |
Quote:
Waves, Opthalmologist are notorious for messing up scripts. Here the shops almost always make us buy new frames with the lenses. I had have progressives since I was forty. It took me a few years but I love mine now. I do not need them for distance. Only reading and middle. I have computer glasses (middle) (very good lenses but major cheap frames) that I use only at home. My sis wears some kind of lens for her migraines (headaches). Make the most of the snow! :) Mari |
I think mine are progressive too. And I have a colored or tinted lens for migraines. Derrick has one or did for seizures.
donna:grouphug::hug: |
Another winter day here after teasing days of 50's it is snowing all day with more on Monday and Tuesday.
Dd and dh picking up their new glasses. I think my need is mid vision, the progressives are great but a short coming on the computer for sure. Hope we see Spring like weather soon! Di |
I hope to see spring like weather soon too.
Donna:grouphug::hug: |
We had a big booming thunderstorm Saturday afternoon. It was the first one of the year.
I also have 2 pairs of computer glasses that are just right for the computer. My proscription bifocals, top and bottom,do not have this clarity for the computer. They are just right. BF:hug::hug::hug: |
We are expecting Snow today, but there is no sign of it.
It is sprying (rain!) very very very lightly, but no major precipitation really. That's too bad. I hope it snows. My mom hopes it doesn't. I like it. Mom hates it. Something is up though, because there is a dead silence outside, and there should be several birds chirping by now (8.25 am). ~ waves ~ |
I was out getting the clothes I bought on clearance yesterday.
And it was what is going to be a beautiful day. And I'm so glad. We are going to the end of year. Party for Derrick's basketball team. I sure hope it goes good. First year its a new location Monster Golf, which is a indoors miniature golf course. That lights up and has games. I set this up. And am really nervous the kids wont enjoy themselves as much as the usual bowling party. But we just couldn't get a bowling alley. And it just wasn't possible, to pay the prices they wanted. I am not too happy with them. Next year if this doesn't work, I will be working on it sooner, to try a different one that someone suggested late, to late. Donna:hug::grouphug: |
