Dear Majo,
My meals do not fit into that whole breakfast, lunch, dinner thing.

But last night I had two cups of black eyed peas and a cup of rice.
Next time I will steam some veggies to go with them.

We usually have a meat entree, and a cooked veggie, and some times a salad too. They say that vegies should take up half of your plate for dinner. steam them instead of butter use a seasoning salt or lemon, fresh asparagus is in season so it is plentiful. we steam that and use lemon. we split the whole pound of it (trimming off the last 2 inches of fibrous stalk) and it is alot! and very filling and nutritious.
they sell pork chops in large quantities here we take them out of the container and freeze them in individual bags for seperate servings, boneless they cook up in a jiffy! we have a seasoning salt that we like to use on fish or pork or chicken it is like tony sacheres or old bay with cayenne for a spicy flavor. you can buy talapia fish in large quantity and they are usually individually wrapped so you can cook just what you want and keep the rest frozen..they thaw under water very quickly. we use the spray pam for sauteing every thing or a bit of olive oil, some times I use a bit of a marinade sauce to cook the meat in, i did that last night with a sesseme, ginger dressing and a little barb b q sauce it was good on pork chop.

Hi All

I had a ham and cheese subway sandwich. And drink for lunch.

I am not sure yet what will be for dinner, because we are eating
out in town. But I'll post later if possible.

at subway the sauces can kill your diet!
That is why I reccommend using the spicy mustard, it is low calorie and you don't have to worry about any extra fat.
I had a flat bread ham and turkey with pepper jack cheese and spinach and tomatos and jalepinos, very filling at 400 calories for lunch.
So then I come home and drink my imperial stout beer that has 316 calories!!!!!!!!
I officially start my diet MONDAY!!!!!!!!

Default Friday's food log

Hi,
I had
-one quarter (thigh and leg) rotisserie chicken
-one cup black eyed peas
-huge salad with salad dressing
-peanuts

The peanuts tasted delicious. I figured out how to eat them with the braces. I am so happy.

Tomorrow I will eat some fruit.

It is believed that the triglycerides/HDL ratio is one of the most potent predictors of heart disease. It is generally considered that if this number is below 2 the person is generally at a low risk of heart disease. So, the lower your triglycerides, or the higher your HDL, the smaller this ratio becomes.
Is this the ratio that you were referring to Mari?

I have heard good things about the slow niacin, not causing flushing...and hubby takes the red rice yeast or something like that ,it too is supposed to help lower cholesterol.
thank you for the links mari.

Nicotinic acid
Common side effects of nicotinic acid include flushing, itching, and gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea and vomiting. Hepatotoxicity (liver cell damage), including elevated liver enzymes and jaundice, has been observed at intakes as low as 750 mg of nicotinic acid/day for less than three months (34, 35). Hepatitis has been observed with timed-release nicotinic acid at dosages as little as 500 mg/day for two months, although almost all reports of severe hepatitis have been associated with the timed-release form of nicotinic acid at doses of 3 to 9 grams per day used to treat high cholesterol for months or years (8). Immediate-release (crystalline) nicotinic acid appears to be less toxic to the liver than extended release forms. Immediate-release nicotinic acid is often used at higher doses than timed-release forms, and severe liver toxicity has occurred in individuals who substituted timed-release niacin for immediate-release niacin at equivalent doses (33). Skin rashes and dry skin have been noted with nicotinic acid supplementation. Transient episodes of low blood pressure (hypotension) and headache have also been reported. Large doses of nicotinic acid have been observed to impair glucose tolerance, likely due to decreased insulin sensitivity. Impaired glucose-tolerance in susceptible (pre-diabetic) individuals could result in elevated blood glucose levels and clinical diabetes. Elevated blood levels of uric acid, occasionally resulting in attacks of gout in susceptible individuals, have also been observed with high-dose nicotinic acid therapy (34). Nicotinic acid at doses of 1.5 to 5 grams/day has resulted in a few case reports of blurred vision and other eye problems, which have generally been reversible upon discontinuation. People with abnormal liver function or a history of liver disease, diabetes, active peptic ulcer disease, gout, cardiac arrhythmias, inflammatory bowel disease, migraine headaches, and alcoholism may be more susceptible to the adverse effects of excess nicotinic acid intake than the general population (8).
after reading all of this I am scared to take niacin.....
