Red face

I am going to go to the health food store and get a colon cleanse kit. stop with the laxative pills since they are not working. somebody suggested psylium husks in a pill form. I would like to just use the calm, because I like the way it tastes. I will keep you posted. thanks for your feed back.

Bizi,

for this "emergency." the kit sounds healthier if it works... at least it is designed for this purpose. one very old remedy for constipation - powerful laxative - is castor oil ... now i don't really recommend it, esp not for regular use. i guess just... fyi... last resort maybe.

however, once you get "unstopped up," you need to prevent it from happening again. you seem to be eating lots of veggies in your diet, but i am wondering, are you getting enough (healthy) oils? it is easy to get constipated on low carb diets esp. if one also cuts out oils because of the sheer caloric implications. water is not enough. you need oils for lubrication (a portion is also used within the body itself). often we consume more protein than we need... i might suggest adding a little fat and reducing protein accordingly. i am thinking even adding one tablespoon of olive oil per day might help. i think that's about 100 calories (?ish) you need to shave off elsewhere.

You are right waves about me not getting enough oils. The colon cleanse worked for me this morning but I have lost the urge to go. So am making an effort to try to go more regularly. Making efforts to drink more water which is hard. and will try to get more oils in my diet. Although I had rotiseri chicken thigh and leg with skin so had plenty of fat yesterday...not the good kind though...although it tasted very good!
Have been counting calories and counting carbs. Staying between 1200-1800 calories a day and 60-90 carbs a day. except for mardi gras when I was out of control.....Even so, I have lost 5 pounds in almost 3 weeks.
Have a good weekend every one, lets hear it for healthy eating!

Default tuna with salad - but not tuna salad! etc.

i seem to have developed a regular lunch. eat it maybe 3-4 times a week.

tuna (in oil, mostly drained) mashed up and tossed with lettuce/salad greens of various types (whatever is leftover haha).
  • sometimes i blend the mashed tuna with a bunch of garlic powder and cayenne powder.
  • alternatively (like today) i top with a freshground 5-pepper mix.
  • sometimes i add a fine sliced small red onion.
not formally dieting, but basically trying to eat healthy stuff, and cautious with SIMPLE carbs (bread, potatoes, sweet stuff).

---------
i am still using sugar in my coffee. i considered giving it up for Lent but i did not. i take 1.5 tsp sugar per cup and drink 2-4 cups a day.

unfortunately, i who seldom eat candy, found these lovely old-fashioned berry-flavored bonbons when i went to the store with dad one day. Mmmmmmmmm!!!!! i have been having one, sometimes two per evening... solid sucrose of course... sigh.

Default Hi Bizi

I agree with Waves. I did the same thing you are doing in my diet. I did add olive oil, and more fish like salmon. This helped long term. I also still add that oatmeal steel cut, and the combination worked good without any drugs. This has happened to you a few times, so maybe a change in diet a bit is necessary. Let me know how you are, I do care Bizi. I have had the problem too with taking pain medications. This kind of change worked for me. ginnie
