Hi everyone,
Each day we are subject to many frustrations and disappointments.The way we handle them will decide how we feel later physicaly and emotionaly. I use that term emotion with much caution. I will give you a example of the working up process. The other day I was down to the boat at the harbor.The harbormaster made a comment that I had forgot to close the gate.I told him that it probably was someone else.he told me "no" it was me.That is when I started getting worked up My symptoms were ,racing thoughts,muscles tension,facial anger.Had the impulse to howler at him. That is when I began to spot. His opinion that it was I who left the gate open was outerenviroment and I couldn,t change it. I used muscles control over my speech not to further any argument. I excused him for my mental health. It was a phasic not basic condition temper has alot of feeling but not much force. It was a trivility and my mental health was more important than a symbolic victory. Every measure of self control leads to self respect and self confidence before I had my traing I would have told him off in short order and then I might have lost my dock.You can see how much symptoms losing the dock would have caused over a silly argument. The person has a dry sense of humor but overall is good guy. Glad I didnt lose it and lose our friendship. There are many tools avaliable that will help you learn to stop the process. I will post them here soon for all. One thing about this sceintific information,you have to practice it before you get into where you need it.Information alone is useless if you dont practice it. CBT - Cognitive behavior therapy - may be of great help with specifics for dealing with such situations and changing the outcome. There are workbooks on it, and that may be especially helpful combined with a therapist trained in CBT.
There is no doubt that the bipolar creates very strong emotions and thinking seems to have wings of their own. CBT helps you gain more control. |
