Dear Waves,

That's a rough movie to watch --- even if you were mostly not watching it.
Maybe you can get some benzos that are manufactured to be used under the tongue.

orosoluble/orodispersible vs. sublingual

there is no specifically sublingual formulation for lorazepam.

the formulation i have is labeled orosoluble, which is probably the same as "orodispersible."it is made to melt against the mucosa in your mouth ("buccal administration"). it is not even really a tablet, more of a wafer. it sticks to whatever part of the mouth you put it on and melts there instantly. you'd be hard pressed to try to swallow it.

i do stick it under my tongue, because there are big fat veins there, so once absorbed my thought is it should go into circulation faster than, say, through the cheek. maybe i am wrong about that though. i will ask my pdoc as well as the pharmacists.

i don't know if there is a specifically sublingual formulation for Xanax but i'm not keen on switching to Xanax due to its P450 involvement.

Xanax and Ativan are prolly the only two they'd bother making sublingual version for, being the two fastest acting benzos.

p.s. i only watched a few scenes... maybe a total of 1 minute of the film, near the beginning. then nil. not even half watching. not even half hearing. she had the volume low enough my earplugs blocked it 100%.

Hi waves

I too don't watch any movies that have terror in them. I don't find being scared have to death intertainment! Fear is one of those emotions I just as soon not have. Hope your headache goes away today and everyday. ginnie:santa:

Hi, Waves,

Klonopin comes in a wafer here but it is hugely expensive.

Dumb question: do liquid versions of the benzos get into the system faster than the pills / tablets?

I stick Klonopin under my tongue sometimes. I have no idea it that is effective or advisable, but I do remember reading on line that someone else was doing it or suggested I do it.

Dear Mari

'love the snowman! :)

the Klonopin wafer looks just like my lorazepam wafer. the packaging type is identical, and the pills, i mean wafers, look similar. they are rounded on top and slightly concave on the bottom. and yes, mine costs a good bit more than than the regular lorazepam tablet, but it is what pdoc prescribed for me. i buy that because i *normally* do not need to use a lot of it anyway. it is not for regular use, only prn for acute attacks.

To take the clonazepam disintegrating tablet (wafer):

Keep the tablet in its blister pack until you are ready to take it. Open the package and peel back the foil from the tablet blister. Do not push a tablet through the foil or you may damage the tablet.

Using dry hands, remove the tablet and place it in your mouth. It will begin to dissolve right away.

Do not swallow the tablet whole. Allow it to dissolve in your mouth without chewing.

Swallow several times as the tablet dissolves. If desired, you may drink liquid to help swallow the dissolved tablet.
as for the drops, no, the absorption and bioavailability is about the same as the standard pills. however.... i have administered those under tongue too. just hedging my bets.

i will ask pdoc and pharmacy as to whether the wafer forms are absorbed any faster if they are administered sublingually.

both Klonopin and Ativan are used to treat status epilepticus. (repeated seizing without full recovery, or seizure prolonged beyond five minutes). for someone having a seizure, because the best placement is to tuck it between cheek and gums, where it will stay still, dissove, and not end up spat out or stuck to the windpipe. also your finger is out of the way of the teeth while you are placing it.

i haven't been on Zoloft constantly. i have been on it and off it. and off it for long periods, too. but still, i hear what you are saying. my body may not be reacting the same way. krikey i am only taking 50mg!!!! i used to take 100 or 125 typically!

formulation vs. administration route

if standard Klonopin, if absorbable by the mucosa, would be more effective if you crushed it first to minimize the what gets washed down by saliva, possibly making it to the stomach.

according to Wiki, it sounds to me like buccal and sublingual are routes of administration, whereas orodispersible is a type of formulation. (they don't say the last part, but they indicate various things "suitable" for buccal/sublingual administration without differentiating.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Route_of_administration

so something that is orodispersible should work by either route. the same applies as above. the faster the dissolution/penetration into the mucosa, and the less swallowing, the more will go into the bloodstream bypassing the GI tract and liver. if placing under the tongue makes you salivate too much, that could have the opposite effect. with the wafers i just try to keep my mouth still untill the wafer is gone to avoid salivating too much.

i am getting tense again now so i will turn my attention elsewhere. :o

dad made me a nice lunch... pasta with just aa hint of anchovies, garlic and parsley. olive oil obviously and topped with a sprinkle of parmesan.

Waves,

The cards work fine. The calendar can be printed when the shops workers are less harassed by crowds.
