if it's not dirt Donna, the only other thing i can think of is that the circuitry is slowly detaching.... you mentioned earlier there was a pattern...

i'd recommend taking it to a repair shop at this point - but don't leave it there. ask:

1. how much it will cost JUST to open it up and diagnose the problem?

2. what might be the range of repair cost, based on possible problems?

some repairs - especially to laptops - are just not worth it, but it depends on what is wrong. it might be cheaper to buy another one.

how old is your laptop anyway?

Red face

wow. that's pretty young.

well, i believe we've excluded superficial causes - you said no spills (stickyness) and no dirt/crumbs etc (air didn't help). i assume(?) you jetted the air, using the straw, directly between the problem keys. i suggested that because it was the easy thing to try, and pretty cheap. but the fact that you said it happened suddenly and also that you saw a "pattern" did sound suspicious to me that it could be internal... question of connections.

probably at this point it will have to be taken apart to know what is wrong. but someone else might know of some other diagnostic tricks you can try... so it maybe worth asking.

but before you ship it off into lululand, see if someone else might have some ideas... if you haven't posted on the computer forum, post there. someone more hardware savvy (i'm not very) may be able to help - at least give you an idea what sorts of problems you could be looking at. you could also just stop into a computer repair store, tell them the make and model and the problem you are having. you should draw like a map of what keys are not working and take that with you. they might go "aha" ...

oh. one more thing you could try. google using as keywords the
the make, model, model of your computer and "keyboard problems"

eg:

Compaq P450 "keyboard problems"

might turn up something if it is a common defect. well those are the dregs of my ideas... sorry, Donna. (((hugs)))

Donna - you may be able to buy a keyboard that might work with your laptop which would be cheaper than a wireless one (they even sell keyboards for the iPad that you plug in - probably with a USB connection. Check with a local office store like Staples, Office Max, etc.

Your posts are legible but challenging to read sometimes .

I appreciate the chuckles, tho I realize that it's not at all funny to you .

Did you know that the g and the h & gh, are three off the most irritating letters or combos to need. I am going to ask permission to find out about a new keyboard today. But I hate the fact I will lose the computer for a couple of weeks probably. Of just found out, we ave some one new doing technical things . And maybe I can get a different laptop till its fixed. Yippee. But will et a call from person and if I can be walked through how to fix even better.

Thumbs up

That's great news, Donna! A talk-thru fix would be fantastic but, short of that, a loaner would sure make things easier on you. Wow, can you believe? A light at the end of your keyboard tunnel?
