Congratulations! Tough to walk away from that one, I know. Awesome on the eight pounds. Nothing as good as finding out that your 'fat jeans' need to be downsized. Or maybe you are too smart to keep a closet that will accommodate a variety of waistlines? I'm at the large size range right now , with Christmas around the corner. Yikes! Today is a new day.

hi bizi,
I use to drink a lot at one time my psych. called it self medacading when I say a lot I mean a lot a fifth of jack a day dering the week and a galon on the weekends,one day I was setting at my dressing table puting on my make up and sipping my drink when I took a real hard look at myself in the mirror and did not like what I saw looking back at me,that was the last time I drank jack I drank beer off and on for a while after that now I mite have two beers every once in a while,and beleave me I have no toerinse at all any more two beers and I'm under the table as they say cheep date huh (lol) any way after I moved and had to get a new psych. he tells me that some meds. make some people crave alchol. your husband my not think you have a problum but if you think that you do maybe you do after all who knows you better then you?

Thank you for sharing your story. I think it took me getting manic to realize that the drinking was making me manic and I was doing things that I wasn't in control.....I read your profile, you face alot of challenges. I amsorry it is so hard for you and that you are so isolated.I wish there was some way to help you deal with your panic attacks and get out doors to meet people if not in the park then a coffee shop.

It seems to me that I swapped alcohol craving for sugar craving. Not fun for you to be made manic by it. So much for a relaxing glass of wine.

Katmae, it takes a lot to admit you have a problem. From there begin with the next question, what to do about it? Perhaps you will find a better question than this. I liked your question with which you finished your post. Good luck!

There seems to be a change that happens to most former drinkers. I stopped drinking alcoholic beverages more then 20 years ago. I noticed that I developed a sweet tooth. I've heard this from others who have stopped. I had ice cream tonight. I ate 4 Klondike bars. I can't seem to be satisfied with one.

HI steve, klondike bars are my favorite, I don't buy them as I would eat them! I wish you could buy one instead of 6 to a pack. today is day 60 of my break from drinking, time flies. IT has been relatively easy...I discovered chewing gum helps as long as I don't bite my lip like I usually do. scales tipped in my favor this morning down 11 pounds in 2 months.
Must get some paper work done tonight have been avoiding it. I am going to take a sleep study due to my snoring. I hope I can sleep and I hope that I don't have sleep apnea. Poor jeff. Going to try the strips first. There is a mouth piece that they can make for you to wear instead of the mask if I do need something but it doesn't guaranty to stop the snoring.

Lots of smart people where I am easily intimidated. IT will be a pot luck and lots of free flowing wine. I have social anxiety and this will be a big test for me.

Bizi,

Pot luck means you can bring a low-carb dish for yourself. Bring your own tea or coffee or whatever you drink now.

Lots of university people are very stupid -- not smart at all. They know how to use vocabulary and act like they are smart --- try to observe them and you will notice that.
You might also notice that one or two people at the Thanksgiving thing are shy or anxious and you can go talk to them.

When I used to go to those parties, I would do any of the following:
--bring a new toy or book for a child of the house
--help out in the kitchen. I used to do a lot of dishes
--hangout with the family children or pets
--read the newspaper in the next room
--take a walk
--bring my embroidery to work on while everyone else talked
--ask about artwork or photos on the wall and let them talk
--pull down one of their books off the shelf and ask questions so they could talk about something that makes them happy
