All of that dairy makes no sense at all to me, for reflux problems. The low-fat part makes sense, but not having dairy as a mainstay. Maybe she won't eat much of it, but wants alternatives. Is your mother not eating meat right now? I find that lean meats in small quantities go down ok. Like I've snacked on cooked ham -- just a few slices pop it in the mouth as is, no bread no condiment, no muss, no fuss, and no reflux. I've read that responses to foods with this problem are highly individual, so... I guess she knows what "goes down ok" and what doesn't. I wonder if she has specific fruits/vegs. I find fresh fennel extremely soothing -- if only I could subsist on that entirely. ![]() Nuts, despite their fat content, seem to be ok for me also. Sorry. Went on. It's just that I'm hungry, had half a turkey sandwich and now I have to wait until it's "gone down" (maybe a couple hours) to have anything else... sigh. *tap fingers... waves |

I will ask her about fennel. In the car hubby and Mom had 0% fat fruit flavored yogurt, pairs, and some pecans. At the restaurant she ordered a salad with chicken and pita. She skipped the pita and ate the chicken. I bought the dairy stuff because she likes to snack and I did not see someone making a chicken for her. And hubby stinks with cooking fish. Her list says "raw" even though it is logical that cooked could be better. We split up tomorrow because Dad and I sleep later than the other two. Hubby and Mom will go for a walk or something and Dad wants a bagel with me. According to the menu, the place has grits!!!! I hope that they really do. Then a museum with more walking for them. === One of my feet is getting worse. Pain has spread to what feels like my ankle so I soak both feet in very cold water for 20 mins before applying the ointment from the doc. I hope that whatever followed the turkey sandwich was nice. Gosh I am sorry to hear one of your feet is worse. Perhaps it got strained somehow? Do you sense that your walking is "off" -- i.e. antalgic somewhat. I could see that causing ankle stiffness/pain.
I wonder how often that ointment can be applied. I also wonder about cold vs. hot water, or perhaps alternating them (but in which order)? Your mother's eating sounds relatively sensible after all. I wonder why she listed raw chicken when obviously it would have to be cooked. Or was that not the raw thing. Maybe she was concerned about things being plain enough (no condiments/spices). Oh well. Sounds like she is all set. The lowfat dairy, fruit and nuts make handy snacks. ------------ After the sandwich (during the night/my day) I had a cup of soup, a piece of fennel, and a banana. Spread out. I am coming down with whatever my mom had so feeling even yuckier today. Question unrelated to anything: You mention freezing ginger. How do you freeze it? Is there any preparation, do you peel, then slice, then freeze, or freeze whole, or... ?? waves |

Dad and I went out for his bagel with nova.
I had grits -- hard to find around here unless you are up in time for "breakfast" and I was up early-ish. Hubby and Mom walked and had a picnic. Tomorrow is something similar except Hubby is going to cook. Here is what we saw at a museum: ![]() ![]() The first one took up an entire wall and the figures of people were part of the the art. The second is a close up of one of the squares. Some of the symbols/ emotions were related to water, exile, history, love, . . . . Dad pushed me in a wheel chair because ankle completely gave out on the way into the building. Mari |

We put the whole ginger in a ziplock bag and put the bag in the freezer. The ankle was probably "injured" at home doing something stupid. (I am confused about the "wear shoes at home" thing. Do sandals count? Can I walk barefooted sometimes? ) I think I might have tried to do something REALLY stupid like walk or stand around with toes slightly curled up because I "half" got some instructions somewhat about not doing the opposite =------>not going barefoot because the curling toes under does something to the plantar fascia. Also I was going by most of the exercises in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kStu...dex=18&list=WL These are consistent with other things I have seen in the ortho's office or online or other. . . . except the ball thing. It is too hard because the ball is rolling. And I do not do the standing ones at 2:24. Cold water makes sense to me. THe foot doc and all the massage people and the Phy Therapists from both docs like cold. Cold only. I have started applying the foot ointment to the ankle. Also internist gave me ointment for the knee that I have not used yet. My head cold is still hanging around. How are you feeling physically? Dad said Mom is taking Fennel tablets/ capsules. I asked if she can find fennel in her grocery store and if she has it. His response was not clear. Mari Last edited by Mari; 12-29-2014 at 03:26 PM. |

I am tired and I am tired of him. I feel bad.
But early in the car trip to the beach when I was driving we were talking about hubby's and my retirement money because I thought it would help if Dad would say something encouraging IN GENERAL to Hubby about preparing better for retirement. Dad was asking me specific questions and I was watching the road and very very tired and it did not help that Dad was using the wrong terminology because his retirement system is different. I asked him to stop and he kept it up. Then I cried. Then at the beach he was talking about topics that were not appropriate or not nice and he knows that. Even after I reminded him he did that again and again. (Conversationally, he could not adjust for my needs in general or for my needs in particular.) Once or twice he told me that I was WRONG about something that I was not wrong about AND that was not appropriate for a walk that was physically hard for me. nice easy convo would have been appropriate We did have a good walk at the beach. We did a very slow one hour walk with breaks on the benches ( I subtracted from the time for the pizza stop.) And I got some insight from him about the sibling meet up that I have not deserted for some reason. Mari |
