Red face my new face.....

Thought I would start a new thread for this here.
I actually started Monday.

Am 48 years old and still suffer with acne. and have been scaring since turning 40...the mgic number when my picking at my face starting leaving scars I was lucky before then.
I have been on the benzol peroxide products for years and still have break outs but have not been determined to follow a strict program....I was inconsistant. and have never really tried to not touch my face.
I read some of the pages on this thread and am intrigued at the thought of leaving my face alone and let it heal itself.
So last night I washed my face with phisoderm to "clean my make up off" and did not put any BP on it....and woke up with a brand new pimple on my chin. But I am going to try really hard to not put any chemicals on my face.
so this morning I did nothing. no make up.
This evening after going to the gym and sweating alot which I just dabbed at the sweat so it wouldnot get in my eyes. and took a shower and was able to not wash my face which amazed me. I could taste the sweat around my lips but did not touch my face.
I really have not touched it all day which is amazing to me I was focusing all day on leaving it alone. I tried to not have any sugar but ended up eating half an apple muffin with turkey sausage and egg beaters for breakfast. 2 cups of dark roast coffee with half and half, spinach salad, with buffalo chicken from subway (no bread)and chicken marsala with sauteed spinach with vegatable broth, lemon water for dinner from jonny carinas. I think I did pretty well on the low carb for the day. aside from the muffin I did not hav eany sugar. I threw away the left over candy from the holidays.
I am anxious to see how my face is tomorrow.
How often should I wash my pillow case?
I have never adressed that issue, usually it is a long time between washings so that may have contributed to the problem.

since I have attained my goal weight, This new diet is to help with my acne and overall health.
It is called the paleo diet.The hunters and gatherers diet.
IT is supposed to help with inflamation and control sugar spikes and thus insulin spikes which contribute to increased acne.
one pimple, new, came on yesterday but face looks smoother already.

Flax oil can do wonders for improving acne and your skin.

People low in zinc also have acne challenges.

There are other supplements that support the skin.
You can think about those too.

But daily oral flax (either by food --the new enriched types of things) or capsules, will do wonders.

Some RX drugs deplete certain vitamins and nutrients. I don't recall what you are currently taking, but send me a PM and I'll look that up for you.

I was taking 1 flax seed oil capsule and 1 fish oil capsule but thought that was redundant. both good omega 3's. maybe I should go back to taking both?. I take lamictal 200mg, geodon 120mg , klonipin 1 mg.
multi vitamin and calcium.

Your meds are too new to be included in the reference I use.

That means, that depletions are unknown at this time.

But flax oil and fish oil are not redundant. Flax oil is the basic Omega 3 we all need some of daily. If you don't get it from your food, then you must supplement it. It is like Vit C... we cannot live without it. The Omega 6 are common in our food chain but Alpha linolenic acid is not. In fact there was a science blurb yesterday about preventing PMS with fatty acids!

This is not really "new"... I've been suggesting it for a decade, now.
EPA in Fish oil is anti-inflammatory and the DHA in it builds membranes. Flax (alpha linolenic acid) also builds membranes in the skin, and linings of the lungs, stomach etc.
Left over alpha linolenic acid may be ultimately converted to EPA and DHA, in females up to 20-24%. But if you are low in it, it probably doesn't get to that point.

I'd wonder about your Vit D. Anti-seizure drugs are notorious for lowering that.(Lamictal). Low D leads to poor immune status, and hence skin infection, chronic lung problems, and other infections. You can have this tested, to find out where you are. I had mine done recently and at 5000IU D3 daily I was only at 43. My doctor wants me at 70 ultimately, but my immediate goal is 50. At this level I am still free of upper respiratory infections, which seem to have gone away, since I raised my D3 to 4000IU two years ago. So if you haven't had a D test yet, I'd get one.

Nicomide was once on the market RX, and I am unsure if it still is.
I saw several patients who did very well on this alone, who did not want antibiotics.
This is the ingredient list:
Nicotinamide, USP 750 mg
Zinc Oxide, USP 25 mg
Cupric Oxide, USP 1.5 mg
Folic Acid, USP 500 mcg
All are OTC. The presence of copper is to offset the zinc.
If you do get the zinc, get OptiZinc brand...not expensive at all and it has the copper in it. Folic acid shows up as an acne treatment sometimes too. Nicotinamide is Niacin in a no-flush form. I suspect the zinc is the major player in this product.

Oh my... I have had acne since I remember... I hate it !!!

Well, after Mrs. D post mine will sound silly, just wanted to say my personal experience

So, I had "regular" acne since I was probably 13... I tried only creams and topic stuff... someones helped, some others did nothing... so I thought I should just ignore my acne...

When I turned like 25, my acne got worse... so, I tried creams + antibiotics... helped for like 6 months but they came back... At that time I was taking Omegas too, and, let me tell you they didnt help... ZERO help.

1 year ago... acne was... TERRIBLE, not only the pimples but you could see all my face red, inflammed and grassy... I could even smell the grass ! iuk... It seems that my hormonal problems made it worse... So, analysing my story, doc put me on "Oratane", I think in the US you get Reoccutane... It's a very dangerous medicine and many people/docs dont like it... The dosage is supposed to be calculated according to weight, but, as I have over-weight and, because my doc knows my psychiatric problems, he just gave me 10mg... daily... that dosage is soooooooo low, nobody would take that dosage if following the weight law... but that dosage doesnt bother my lipids, nor my liver, so... ANNNND, voila !!! acne is gone !!! FOREVER !!!

I just wanted to give my 2 cents.

About pillow case, you are supposed to change it daily...

Well, I didn't even get to 30 before my picking started to catch up with me.

I'm strangely drawn to bathroom mirrors with the right lighting (unfortunately have one in current apt.) and can't just pick one without going whole-hog.
I used to practice the Joan Crawford method: pick it, apply face cloth soaked with very warm water for several minutes, followed by splashing very cold water. I have sensitive and highly reactive skin and it hid the evidence by making the inflammation more diffuse. I don't do this religiously anymore.

I've been on estrogen for the last month and have been getting new types of zits...
They don't respond well to picking though, so I've stopped again. I'm just washing with unscented dove soap, and have changed moisturizers again... It's so hard to find one that is sensitive AND hydrating enough.

I've heard that magnesium is also good for skin. I just started taking a calcium, zinc, and magnesium combo.

Bizi, I hope that your new diet helps! To me, your skin looks great to me in your pics.

I am sorry, Blue... but I cannot caution anyone enough about
that drug you took. Even at low dose. It is very dangerous, and more and more nasty things turn up with it. It is very close to being taken off the market in US in fact.

Just type in Accutane warnings or toxicity into Google. As the years have passed more and more diverse damage has been documented!

It remains an important anti-cancer intervention for some childhood cancers, but for acne...it is just not worth it IMO.

Thank you Mrs. D... I knew I was taking poison... I mean, I can feel it, and see it...

Oh well... I was just reading they might suspend the use of refractive surgery... yeah, that practice that changed my life forever... Why didnt they banned it before me ruining my life ?? And now Accutane... I think it's part of my pathetic existance... After burning my eyes forever, why not take the risk and kill my liver too ??

Please forgive me... that was off topic and too much rant from my part... but, I have became very sour and rude since I almost got blind with something FDA approved...

Just ignore what I said.

So, bizi, yeah... Acne is very difficult to get rid off... I hate it !!

well I picked up some flax oil caps tonight and will restart those. I am getting about 1000mg of vitamin d from the citracal and multi vit...have never been tested. going to order many pillow cases on line, has to be cheaper than at walmart.

For dinner tonight we had seared tuna over white beans and spinach and feta and humus...it was delicious. Went to this restuarant called romacelli.
Drank mint tea with lots of lemon, good alkaline food! I think I read somewhere that apple cider vinegar is good for us. I shall see how much I should be drinking a day. Going to get the new truvia sweetner made from the plant called stevia.
I think I did not have any sugar today.

3 new little white heads have popped up but I have not touched my face today! I am being very focused and not picking at my face, I am very proud of myself for this!!!!!
I told you that I worked out at the gym last night and avoided washing my face and went to bed salty ...but woke up and all of the saltyness was gone. pretty amazing!
I talked with my sister today...she never uses anything except water on her face. I was shocked!
