I mixed 14 doses of Mirilax into 2 bottles of Gatorade and downed it all Friday night (Mirilax colon cleanse). I only had a couple of BM's yesterday (starting after about 10hrs of taking it), but I've been going to the BR a lot this morning- urgently. I know these things take longer because I wait too long and I'm backed up, but how can I take something so unpredictable every week? Not happening... The gastro NP is going to have to come up with something better. He just has to.

I really have to go food shopping, but I don't know how I'm going to manage that if I'm still going to the BR like this. It's early tho. So maybe it will stop at a reasonable time and I can get out.

The radiologist report for the CAT scan I had done while I was in the ER is supposed to be posted today, but it's not available yet. I hope that since I was on my back vs. on my stomach and I'm almost 20lbs lighter this time, the pictures of my kidneys will be better, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

good luck with the cat scan. can you try less of a dosage next time until you find the minimum you can take and still have it work?

bizi 03-04-2018 10:45 AM

I hope the miralax usage helps to finally get on a tract that you can accept.
IT is a mystery how your GI tract works....is this because of your MS screwing around with motility? or something else...is that what your gastro has said?

I'm not going to take all that Mirilax every day. I took it to clean me out because I was SO FOS. Aside from mag. citrate, it's the only thing I can take to do that. Otherwise, I can maybe go to the BR once a week on my own. My gastro says I have this severe constipation because of motility problems from the MS and the meds I take don't help matters.

But I got to read the radiology report from that CAT scan yesterday and apparently I have a herniation/prolapse of my sigmoid colon that is new, so that's probably why it's harder to go to the BR now, and why my pain is worse now. They didn't tell me that in the ER tho. The radiologist also mentioned the bowel wall thickening and inflammation (again) and suggested possible colitis or inflammatory bowel disease. I doubt that the gastro NP will be able to address any of that on Wednesday tho. I'll have to make an appointment with my gastro.
The radiologist mentioned several times that the lack of IV contrast limited the visualization of blood vessels and the solid organs, including the kidneys. So, I'm disappointed about that, but not at all surprised.

Yesterday I printed out all those old lab results from the private lab. Some of them were seriously f***ed up, and I think they are very important. Reading them makes me think, AGAIN, that my kidney problems are from taking lithium. I put them in a little bag with the CDs of the ultrasounds and the CAT scan from November, and copies of my med list and the latest radiology report. So I'm ready for the appointment with the new nephrologist at 3pm. I'm nervous.

I never made it to the supermarket yesterday, but I did run out to CVS. I tried to pick up my prescription, but the line was really long, and I decided not to wait because I was afraid if I was there too long, I would end up s***ing myself. I just bought coffee. I can pick my prescription up today.

I'm going to do the grocery shopping this morning and bring in the perishable items when I get home. The rest of the stuff can hang out in my trunk until I get home from my appointment and Corey can bring it in.

Because of the timing of the appointment, I'm not going to get a nap in today. I'm going to feel like garbage.

I wonder what they will do for a prolapsed sigmoid colon?
I wish you much luck today for your appointment.

I looked further into my records and found a CAT scan of my abdomen with contrast from 2016. Both of my kidneys enhanced, but I don't know what that means. I printed out the radiology report and will bring it with me to my appointment today.

I hope this new nephrologist doesn't want to do another CAT scan, this time with contrast, because it would be my 3rd since November. They are not cheap.

Lots of things to think about prior to this appointment...

I have to leave soon to go to the post office and the grocery store.

I am so glad I went to get a second opinion!!!

The doctor was so nice, and spent a long time with me. My diagnosis has not changed. I have chronic kidney disease (medullary nephrocalcinosis) and am in stage III kidney failure. I still do not know what is causing it yet though.

He said that there was a lot of information to sort through before he could determine what the cause of the nephrocalcinosis is, but he is considering my past lithium use as the culprit, which is something that the other nephrologist immediately dismissed. But it could be a lot of things.

He did ask me questions about my mental health, but he didn't dwell on it, and he wasn't judgemental. He said that Topamax may be an issue, but said that I urinate enough that he wasn't concerned enough to have me discontinue it, since I don't just use it for migraines, I also use it as a mood stabilizer. My "mental health comes first".

He's concerned about some of my kidney function tests that the other nephrologist said were good. He said that he's not talking about dialysis now- but that doesn't mean he won't (hopefully not for a long time).

He said I need to get my digestive problems taken care of as soon as possible, and he would see me in 4 months. I have to have a bunch of blood and urine tests before I see him.

I don't have answers yet, but I feel like I'm in very good hands now. That alone is a big relief.

Tomorrow I see the gastro NP. I hope that appointment is productive... if it's not cancelled... because we're going to get a big snow storm.
IDK about the sigmoid herniation/prolapse... I think most of them end up being surgically repaired. I hope they can do something else about it that will work without going through that tho.

Doing laundry today... so excited.
