My dentist says I need to where a bite guard. Evidentally,I grind my teeth when I'm asleep. When I was a teenager, another dentist said that I was a grinder. I didn't know what he meant, and I didn't pay much attention to him.
Now I have a good dentist who isn't a plowmen. He recommends a bite guard. Well I've had two of them now. The first on was hard, and uncomfortable. I didn't where it very much. He made a second one which is more comfortable. Do any of you have to where a bite guard when you go to bed? I think that the teeth grinding in my sleep is from this life long anxiety.(this is another thing that shows if you have anxiety in your sleep,it's a big problem that's not in your imagination) Tell someone who say's you can control it to put that in their pipe, and smoke it. LOL I'll eats crackers, and things before I go to sleep,to get to sleep. I know. Excuses, excuses, excuses. Will I get a cavity If I put it in after eating? I know. I shouldn't be eating before sleep. Can any people who use bite guards encourage me to where mine. I struggle putting that piece of plastic in my mouth before bed. BF ![]() |

I don't have an answer for you I'm afraid BF, and I know that Bryanna hasn't posted in a little while, but it still might help if you were to copy this post over to the Dental Forum.
Hopefully Bryanna will be back soon, or maybe some-one else might have the answers that you seek. There's no promises of course, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to post your question over there just the same. Here's the direct link to the Dental Forum incase you decide to give it a try....... http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum89.html

That's OK BF.
Bryanna is our resident dental expert but I noticed that she's not posted in a little while. Hopefully she'll be back soon, but failing that, maybe some-one from one of the other forums might see your post and have the answers that you seek. Good luck. I hope you get some relief soon.

Dear Friend,
I've been wearing a bite guard for three or four years. It's mostly a good thing. I brush my teeth and floss every night before I put it in. Mari |

I grind my teeth and clench my jaws. I have TMJ. I have had two dental guards, and both of them, I seem to take out when I am sleeping, I find them under my pillow, etc...........
![]() So, I don't even bother with it anymore. But it sure makes me wake up with headaches. ![]() As I wake up my teeth are clenched. For me it is STRESS that causes it. Good Luck........Nikko ![]() |

I thought my dentist was full of ----. But I have TMJ also and I had a top guard to start of with. After the first night, I could not believe how many bite marks and scratches were on them.
Even if you eat late at night, you could still rinse with something before putting them in. I use Peridoxyl which is made by Crest and its not harsh like Listerine or any of the other rinses. ![]()

I'm sorry that you all have to where them to. People don't talk about Bite guards,or Night guards. This is my second night guard.
My jaw on my right side is a little stiffer then my jaw on my left side. I think that I grind on my right side the most. I just Googled TMJ disorder. I never heard of it before. Maybe thats what I have on the right side of my jaw. At times my jaw gets tight when I'm awake from anxiety. I thank you all for helping me to know more about this. I'm not alone in this situation with grinding my teeth in my sleep. I'm sorry that you all have the same thing. BF ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I clean my guard in two ways.
1. efferedent which the dentist recommended 2. A mouthwash that has xylitol in it +hydrogen peroxide and water Then I also make sure to brush it after each cleaning. |
