Smile Weekend Check in Thread: Friday, June 19, 09 Here we are.

Hello,
It's the weekend again.

I have a 9:00 am appt this morning with the sleep doc to go over my sleep study results. Yes, 9:00 am!

Hubby is going to come with me.
I need someone to drive and I need him to hear what is or is not going on.

I'm hoping that my mood will start to improve soon.

I miss seeing the beach. It's been a long time. Maybe I should figure out a walk on the beach when it is not hot or raining.

What are you up to?

M.

I love the beach. I live in Ohio so that's not an option for me. My Son live on the coast of SC....SO I try to get beach time every year. Just walking it is great, I can barly make myself go out of the house into my back yard even right now...Working on that,, I plan to go back to work Monday...Maybe just having my routine back will help. Enjoy your blessing of being near a beach! Pam

Red face Hi Everyone

wow, is it already friday again? this week flew by.

Pam, i too miss the beach. i spent the first 33 years of my life within reach of a beach and now... just knowing i can't get to one, let alone a NICE one, sometimes just creeps me out. i love the sound of the ocean. wow... work on Monday! Do you feel ok with that? It does sound like you look forward to having the routine back... anyway good luck!

Mari, good luck at the sleep doc's. sending you good vibes. looking at the time, it is 10 mins before your appointment right now... so i'm really sending you good vibes... in "real time" so glad hubby could drive you and also be there to hear what is going on or is not. i hope weather is favorable for you to go to the beach this weekend.

i ... don't have plans this weekend. got labs back and am high in cholesterol so i need to do something... not sure what... dang it. first time ever. my last tests were just after i moved here with my parents. darned fried foods and cheese and icecream and.... grrrrr. i cannot avoid having the foods in the house (my management scheme for not eating them) because they want them. i am just going to have to learn resistence.

now i gotta go wash up a cutting board i left soaped up, before dad has kittens.

Pam,
Good luck in returning to work. Did you get over the sleepiness you mentioned after stopping a med?

Waves,
Thanks for the good vibes with the sleep doc.
I sort of remember that Fish oil can help with cholesterol. Maybe the mayo clinic site says that. Pracititioners of Non Western medicine say that our lab ranges in the US are too tight -- that higher cholesterol is good.

=-=-=-

Visit with sleep doc was ok.

I had a little over 2 hours of sleep and just enough data for him to say that I have moderate sleep apnea.

He demonstrated how the machine works and the three categories of masks he has.
Hubby got very interested when the doc was talking about machines and tubing and such and even tried to pick out what seemed like the best mask. (Doc said that that was not for him to decide but for me to decide!)

Sleep doc said that I did not grind my teeth.
That is good to know.
I think that stupid mouth guard I wore for a while kind of cured that. But now I am wearing braces. So I can think of wearing the braces (thanks to the guard) as the price I am paying to get rid of the grinding.

I started crying when I asked him if the second sleep study (to determine pressure and find a mask that is comfortable) is going to be as horrible as the first one. Short answer: yes.

In order to make me slightly less miserable, he can schedule me later the next time: arrive at midnight, sleep around 2:00 am, . . . .

The way he treated his staff in front of me confirmed my feelings from my other visit with him that he is a bully. He was bossy / nasty with them about chair arrangements in one of the rooms and something else not hugely important. -- kind of explains the emotional atmosphere in his lab at night. He's a perfectionist.

I made an appointment for the second sleep study two weeks from now.

Heart Ohhh Mari

I'm so sorry you have to go for another study with this guy. At least he isn't there himself at night. I hope the fact that you are now familiar with the process, even if it is expected to be uncomfortable, will help lighten the anxiety. I especially hope it does not have the opposite effect!

Do you feel the later hours will help you? I wonder if you can arrange for hubby to drive you and someone else to pick you up? Just thinking out loud about logistics that might lighten the load... you wouldn't have to worry about being road-ready either before or after. But maybe you prefer to have your own vehicle at hand.

While the sleep apnea is not good news in itself, it is good that you have found a problem to which there are solutions. I am not sure if it it can fully tie in to the anxiety about sleeping at night vs. day, and sleeping vs. napping on couch... but perhaps it does... those other ways of sleeping might not feel so vulnerable. and if breathing is affected that is even greater vulnerability, so perhaps it manifests only at night... when everyone else is sleeping... not available. i dunno just a way of saying that, while this may not be the complete solution, it may turn out to go a long way in helping your anxiety about nocturnal sleep. or possibly better enable you to address the anxiety about it.

i am sorry you have to go through another study though. i understand why you would have it in the same lab even if you don't like the guy. also there is an advantage to his being a perfectionist, as far as his interpreting data and getting the mask set up right for you.

i hope you are home, comfy, now and able to wind down after the appointment.

how is the weather? do you think you will be able to go to the beach?

((( Mari )))

Red face

I am weird....
I have this boil/pimple in my eye lid upper area under my brow.
I keep trying to pop it....I know that I should not do this and it is counter productive to irritate it...but it really hurts when I do that...but yet I keep doing it.
~sigh

You guys know how insecure I have been about not being CPR certified for the past 12 years....
Today I took the second step in the process of my getting certified officially.
The first step was actually signing up for the class which i did months ago and forgot about it but got a confiramtion email saying that the class was on friday....today.
the first class that I signed up for thru continuing ed was cancel due to lack of participants.
The class was called cpr for pediatrics and basic first aid.
It lasted 4 hours this morning and we went thru the material, cpr on the dummies, short written test and I got my little card.
This was not the "real" healthcare professionals level course but by gosh it is a step in the right direction!
This was a big step for me.....I am proud of my self today.
