Carri, I'd ask for a referral to a cardiologist - if it's not a sudden onset and you've been feeling as you do for a while. If it's sudden onset, I'd also go to ER.

Who knows what it might be, but it's better to find out. It could range from anxiety to murmur or valves. Only a doc will be able to discern and determine if it is something to warrant medication (such as a beta blocker, etc.) or more.

My ENT detected an irregularity and it led to more. Personally, I favor cardiologists who opt for monitoring that has "loop-back" (monitoring worn for several days - 45 for me - and it records and transmits several minutes prior to when the button is depressed and sends the recording to a technician and cardio. doc monitoring). A living being gets on the phone from the center where the recordings are transmitted. If serious, the person will ask if emergency response is wanted/needed.

Because people are so unique, I just wouldn't mess around when it comes to heart symptoms.
