I just returned home...
and see this thread is still active.
What I wanted to vent, since I have been away all this time(8 weeks) is that the communication about this situation is very poor. The last down we were told that $12,000 were raised...and that is a hefty sum, much of it coming from people who have medical expenses, and other hardships. Not explaining the situation as it stands just invites more hurt and feelings of betrayal. The money IS important for this reason. And anyone running a business knows accountability is necessary. People donate time, energy, expertise, and money sometimes, to help the other members of Braintalk. There are a great many who use it as a lifeline as well, who NEED it. All of us, there are entitled to some sort of explanation regardless of their own personal situations. Not everyone can handle chats. Not everyone can handle virtual reality places either due to slow dial-ups or old computers. Since this place has been here for almost a month, what is to stop someone in the admin of OBT from coming HERE and posting the status? I see that one admin from OBT is registered in our members' list. And as far as favoritism goes, I have heard that rumor too...and I heard it regarding friendships made in the previous years' chats. But I don't use the chats, the old ones, the inbetween ones and I have only used the flashchat 3 times. I just don't feel comfortable in chats. So I can't go further with that rumor. Since many here have posted getting the "white screen" and no update, I would think an update could be fixed without too much effort. ( I am getting a white screen myself). At least someone IS reading here, I am sure since there is a member listed. So they know we can't see the updates. Well, I guess no further purpose is being served on this thread, and I will leav it. (I just wanted to have my say, after reading some of FF). I will wait for the weekend, and see if anything transpires. I still have a shred of hope, a very small one. |

I had this image of the canned meat ... cupcakes... is that what made you laugh, too? Years ago when we first moved to Santa Fe, my friend made supper one night, it was spam that she'd prepared with a sort of glaze, like you'd do an Easter ham, and she had whole cloves in it. After we tasted it we were saying how ... interesting... it was, when she started giggling, I mean really hard, and read us the label... it wasn't the American Spam, she'd gotten a cheap version from somewhere else, and the ingredients were listed as pig snout, pig intestines, ... those are the two that stick in my mind... But there were about a dozen specific things like that listed... :D Did you ever see that film, My Life as a Dog? That was her daughter that stared in it as the little girl. And she looked just like her mum. :) (If you want to know what the chef of the spam looked like.) :) |
Well, I'm dumbfounded after catching up on this thread. I had no idea about that Brigadoon stuff. If I thought my donations were going to anywhere OTHER than the BT forums as I know them, I wouldn't have bothered.
I need time to let my brain sort this out now for sure. And Mrs. D., I wholeheartedly agree. I am not a 'chatter' either, not online in a chat room anyway. I don't like chatrooms. They make me uncomfortable. And yes, they can be very difficult to load. I certainly haven't gone there for updates. I go to my Braintalk bookmark to check for messages. And the last message I saw was 8/24. |
Do you think that JL reads over here and that's why he's giving up and not giving us the curteousy of an update? I am not happier than anyone else about the troubles with BT and I am/was a larger contributer, but should we be speculating like this, while waiting for a kind update from JL?
It's just my observation. I'm not scolding anyone. |

It isn't your fault or my fault. He just isn't intested anymore. If he was interested don't you think he'd post something? Seriously. People get hurt when they try to be too nice ... to people who don't care. |
Maybe this needs to be pointed out again, until hopefully someone takes better note of it.
When a new member comes here, and reviews the same group of people shoving the same thing in the faces of new members - they will have accepted that this is the 'tone' of the new website, and many will not enjoy such a negative tone. By constantly being angry, you accomplish nothing. While it is good to let out your feelings, it certainly isn't good for you to continue to do so as it turns into an addiction of sorts. The old community offered a kind, warm welcome - where here, I felt was an angry 'welcome' or a 'welcome, but only if you agree with us!'. People joined BT for support, friendship and an outlet for various reasons. The tone that has been set here, isn't offering anything near the feeling I had when I'd first joined OBT. It is nearly the opposite. The forums just are not up, accept it or get over it. There is no reason to push your anger down someone elses throat, or to make them feel like someone's scraps. It is rude, and simply not a kind way to welcome someone when you are attempting to 'sell' them a copy of the original. Maybe many don't realize this while they were typing it up, but it certainly does give a negative feeling when many are seeking comfort, myself included. If I wanted to bash someone, or read about bashing someone - I wouldn't go to a Neurology-based website for that, I would search some politics blogs or something. You can be angry if someone posted a link to the original BT chatroom, but guess what? A lot of us do like to chat, and we enjoy the company of one another and the SUPPORT. Take that for what you will. Regards, Ellie Edit: PS: Add a sub-forum for Seizure Disorders, they aren't all Epilepsy! :D |

Sally, we have less than 600 members here and we don't speak for the 10's of thousands of other members that have been left in the lurch. If JL's wittle feelings are hurt because people are "speculating", well he had the opportunity to clear that up and chose not to. I have no sympathy for a tech that would do that to the disabled who have lost their lifelines. Hell he could have called Best Buy's Geek Squad and been up and running in a day! |
