Okay, I am just about ready to go to Radio Shack and for $20 and change, buy a USB wi fi adaptor. I know it comes with a cd rom thing
I have two drives in my old computer. The lightscribe dvd drive does not work. The cd rom drive works fine. I tested it the other day. I just want to make sure that the cd thing that comes with the wi fi usb adaptor, well that it goes in the cd drive and not the other non-working one. As soon as someone writes Melody go and get the wi fi adaptor and stick the cd in the cd rom thing, then off I will go. I contacted the girl upstairs and told her that if she sees someone using her router, that it will be me, that I'm just spreading my wi fi wings and I wanted to run it by her (before I buy my own router). She laughed and said "sure, no problem" So I just might be doing wi fi this week. Wouldn't that be cool?? lol Melody P.S. Here's another of my stupid questions. When I do eventually buy a router, does the router have to be configured to work with the modem it's attached to? Let's say for example, that I buy a router and I hook it up. (I assume this has a cd too?) So do I set up the router to work on my new computer, and THEN I go into the other room and configure the wi fi thing? Did I get this right? And I have another stupid question. On my old computer (in the other room), like I indicated before, I have two drives. A dvd drive and a cd rom drive. On my NEW computer, there is only one drive. It's a SuperMulti DVD burner. I assume this also plays cd's??? Just checking. And thanks. Melody

I'm sure the new computer plays both types dvd & cd.
Just ask the person at the store to make sure it is a cd and not a dvd. but usually they use cd for those sort of things. - your new puter w/ win 7 (correct??) might recognize a lot of that stuff without needing any cd at all. I haven't even looked at much about win 7 , so not much help in that area. and if the cd won't play just go online to the manufacturer/brand name of whatever you buy and find the drivers or program needed and download /install them. usually in the support section. The modem/router set up can be easy or tricky, if it is tricky call up the dsl provider. Verizon & frontier would prefer you just buy the combo router/wifi//modem from them. they will help you much more if you use their equipment, not as much if you bought your own router. At least that's what they told me- but they still helped me figure out my problems a few times but it was on their side one time. I'd suggest looking into the combo and trading up from the modem that you have. You'll get a lot more tech support if trouble arises.

some vids for usb wifi & win 7 -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1I8wLPYUTg Verizon modems and wireless/modems on this page- http://www22.verizon.com/Residential...hree/87779.htm It's not free to upgrade, or change, but it is a good deal if you are thinking about going to buy a wireless router from a store, plus the support factor is better. call and check with Verizon about costs when you get ready for that step. I talked with Frontier last spring and they quoted me 59.00 for the wifi/router combo modem, but that was after I had already bought the new 79.00 D link router.
