Shocked bought a MAC....

A couple of months ago, Microsoft sent out an update to Office 2007. I have my computer setup to get automatic updates ... so anyway the next morning i tried to use Word, but it was totally hosed. Wouldn't save, couldn't write, etc etc.

Finally I went to to the web and checked to see if there were a fix posted -
There was ... Microsoft had sent out the "update" knowing it would "break" Word. It was posted that Word would quit working and here is how to fix it... They told you to get into the Registry and make changes there to fix it. And oh by the way be careful in the Registry because you can do a lot of damage there...

i'm a former sysadmin so that wasn't a problem for me, but it sure could be for a lot of folks who aren't used to mucking around in the registry.

But on principle, that was IT for me! I'd been grumbling about Vista for some time, but for microsoft to actually send out an update that they KNEW would break Word is just inexcusable.

So I switched to a MAC. And i couldn't be happier.

Jean

PS I wrote to Mr Gates and Mr Jobs both and told them my story - told Gates he'd lost a customer forever

I am thinking about a MAC again also....

virtual windows are awesome these days...and we have friends in those places....

Gates is having Seinfeld to do the commercials for him...

as much as I love Seinfeld, he won't be able to persuade me that PC's are good things...

When my PC laptop bit the dust a few months ago I bought a MACbook and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I was an original Mac user when they first hit the market back in 1984 but when we moved to the west coast, NO ONE supported them. So, had to make the switch to the PC environment.

I am back to MAC and will never switch back. It is sooo easy.

If you are truly interested in one, find an Apple Store and go visit the Genius Bar and talk to them. Buy a refurbished one. They cost less but you get a much better product b/c they have been gone over with a fine tooth comb and are better than one from the factory. You can look on the Apple website for one and you get the same warranty as a new one.

I was NOT going to get a new PC with Vista. Too many bugs and I already knew that the very expensive landscape design program I use does not interface well with Vista.

I run a dual platform on my MAC - I have Windows XP on it so I didn't have to buy all new software that is windows based. It runs perfect.

I love this laptop. Plus it only weighs about 3 lbs as opposed to the 8 or 9 lb HP laptop I used to carry around! Makes a huge difference.

And the graphics are better, it's faster, it's automatic. Practically runs itself!

Can you tell I am sold on this!

I am with you 100% on the MACbook. I bought DDs one a little more than a year ago. Although the hard drive crashed a couple of months ago, it was replaced for free due to warranties and the Apple care that we bought. It has been an awesome computer for us.

Unfortunately, many of the programs I use for work only work on Windows not MACs. Once the software company makes changes, hopefully soon, I will definitely see what I can do to get a MAC.

I have 4 programs that only work with Windows XP and I have them loaded on my MAC through a parallel program. You would never know they are on a MAC...they work perfect. One is Word Perfect X4 for Windows, Adobe Photoshop for Windows v 7 something, my landscape program (Pro Landscape) and Quicken 2008 for Windows.

Nothing is impossible with a Mac!!

Default love my mac!

Years ago I was NeXT trainer - loved it - but unfortunately that platform didn't make it.

I was lucky in my timing - since I was taking a course at the community college - I was able to get mac software at academic pricing when I switched.

I LOVE those mac tv ads with the Jobs & Gates (semi) look-alikes.
