If the tooth is cracked it won't heal on it's own. Craze lines can sometimes remineralize but a crack or fracture is deeper than a craze line.
Extraction sites can take many months to heal and the bone actually takes about a year to fill in! So although the gum closes over, there is still healing going on underneath it. The indentation on the side of the empty space may indicate some loss of bone in that particular spot. Again, the OS can tell you that by looking at the area and an xray. Bryanna Quote:

at this stage of the game would you be thinking that the tooth is cracked or the biting pain and discomfort on crunchy things is something else ? I know its just a guess w/o seeing it.
Again its even sore if I bite my tounge on it sometimes.... Thank you AGAIN |
No more guesses......... it could be a crack .... it could be something else :)
A tooth standing by itself next to a recent extraction can be sore for a long time because it no longer has the other tooth to share the chewing forces with. It could feel sore just pressing your tongue against it because the ligament that holds the tooth in the jawbone is being over worked because it is taking most of the force. The soreness can be compared to a bruise on your arm that you constantly bang in to. Without seeing the tooth or an xray there is nothing more I can offer you at this time because my houdini hat is at the cleaners :) Bryanna Quote:

Humm ok I can live with that:mad:
Just kidding, I know its hard to tell, it just seems weird that it still is a problem. If the crack if it is a crack doesnt show on the xray how can they even know if its cracked ?? I dont want the dentist to say " well I dont know what it is so lets remove the nerve" I am going back next week to the OS to let her look again but im not to convinced she will see anything either. :cool::hug: |
ok for the last 2 days It seems like its feeling better... The gum doesnt seem as sore and I even ate some Chex mix on it and a few pretzles wih no problem.
Now should I continue to use it if no pain or just a few times a day for awhile ?? Or stay away from it ?? |
May have spoken too soon, here is my findings;
I can eat pretzles, chex mix etc with good results. Now tonight we had refried bean Enchaladis in soft corn wraps. The firm, not hard wraps when biting down just right cause some minor sensitivty in that tooth. This is what I was finding I could crunch hard stuff but bit my tounge between the upper and lower tooth and there was some pain there. I was going to go back to the OS just to have her take a look at the gum area but seeing as how it has been better the last couple days I was kinda waiting. I notice if you lightly scrape something across the top of the tooth it feels some sensitivity but you can bite hard stuff. Whacha think ? :hug: |
Also that area on the side of the extraction site that has the indent is still real sore if you touch it with your finger, it feels like the edge of bone real close to the surface.
It isnt sore if you touch it with your tounge. Im gonna owe you a gift card for a steak dinner real soon !:D |
I think I'd need to see it cause it can be associated with several things :)
When you see the OS, explain in detail what you are feeling and show her the exact location of your soreness and pain. Ask her specifically why the bony ridge is so sore when you touch it with your finger. Ask her if you are building up plaque and have her show you where it is on your tooth. Ask her to take another xray of that entire area. Without seeing the tooth or an xray, I cannot tell you what is going on there. Let me know what the OS says. Bryanna Quote:

:DIm baaaaaccccckkkkk !!!!!!
Heres what happened; I did not make the apt with the OS because it started feeling MUCH better. I have been able to eat almost everything on it, crunchy pretzles, crackers,non-perils with the bb's, there is still some discomfort when biting like say a very firm pc of meat real hard, its not a nerve pain but rather like a sore pain on the tooth not the gum. The gum area behind the tooth where they removed the molar is also much better. Still slightly sore but nothing like before. I am starting to feel the tooth is NOT cracked or it wouldnt be getting better right ?? Sometimes IF I iritate the gum area with sharp things it is sore for a day but I rinse with hot salt water and it seems ok. So am I wise waiting it out some more ?? Would it really take 4 months to heal ?? Thanks and I MISS YOU !!!!:D |
Hey there cvcman!
Good to hear from you! It sounds like the tooth is doing ok since you can eat almost anything on it without a problem. The gum getting sore from something sharp is normal especially if it gets better so quickly with the salt water rinses. Yes, it can take 4 months or longer for an irritated tooth to calm down. It definitely takes up to one year for an extraction site to heal completely. So it sounds like you are right on track :-) Thanks for dropping by.... we've missed you too ~'.'~ Bryanna Quote:
