I went to the dentist a month ago and had one broken tooth removed & the fillings removed on 3 surrounding teeth in preparation for crowns and a bridge (top right side). I was in no pain before any of this work and there was no infection per the dentist. After getting one of the shots to numb the area, I felt like the right side of my nose plugged up and soon after I had a weird feeling in my eye. I mentioned it and asked if it was normal and was told that it was. It took about 3 days before the right side of my mouth would smile and I felt sinus pain as well as a lot of pain around my cheek bone for another 2.5 weeks. I had no pain in my gums but my upper and lower jaw throbbed. When I went back last week for a mold, I mentioned the pain and pressure and was told it was normal. When they gave me a shot I again felt the pressure in my nose and eye. I continue to feel pressure around my eye, nose and cheek and it hurts right below the bone next to my nose. I have one more visit next month and am wondering if it really is normal for a shot to affect my sinus to that extent. A friend said it wasn't normal and that they probably perforated my sinus cavity with the shot although I don't have the air going from my nose into my mouth. Do I ride it out or should I be concerned?

Hi wallgin,
What you have experienced can and does happen. Is it typical, no. Not unless the injection is being given incorrectly or your nerves have an unusual pattern compared to most other people. It is not wise to keep getting this repetitive injection. So perhaps you can call your dentist, voice your concern and ask if there is another injection that can be given for the remainder of the treatment. Also ask if you should consult with an oral surgeon or other who might know what is happening. Let us know how you're doing........
