Extraction of the 'resorbing' molar is due later this week. I have stocked up on all the soft, tasty, fun[sort of] gloppy foods that can both nourish and provide a person with non-gum irritating and filling foods for the 'duration' afterwards. I truly hope that I will be able to mash, mush semi-nosh food on Turkey day? Tho I am told that I will be, I am cynical due to other medical experiences. I will say that the doctor who will be doing the work appears to be professional, and staff as well have been responsive to my questions so far.
Thanks to you Bryanna, I am prepared, I have asked the questions I think I've had to ask as well as those based on past experiences, well, I am anticipating a degree of discomfort? Compared to other medical issues tho, I am not too overly concerned ....just being cautious.. One thing is the last few times I had had crowns I also received a prescription for 'Periogard'...Would this be a norm in this or similar cases these days? I have been told it will be a 'local anathestic', in some ways this is comforting and others disconcerting. The last time I'd had teeth actually pulled was about the early '70's when I'd four impacted wisdom teeth extracted. For that I was put 'under'. Aside from IcePaks which I abhor due to my neuropathy sensitivities, is there any other 'comfort' mode I can use? Aside from 'compresses' that is? Onward...I plan to go overboard on a nut quota tomorrow, in anticipation for the non-nut healing period. Gotta get those ultra chomps in? Thanks all - j |

yay for you dahlek!
honest since I had the bad ones extracted i have so much more energy and just a whole bunch of little things have cleared up for me I really do recommend the arnica pillules, before and after, as well as the salt rinses starting 24hrs after and continuing for a month. my gums have healed so well....again thanks to Bryanna's great advice on all this. just think .........next week this time you will be looking back and saying "phew...all done!"

Hi J,
Hooray for you! So glad you are prepared ahead of time with "easy eating", nutritious food. That will make a huge difference in how well you heal from the extraction! There is really no need to concern yourself over the fact that this tooth has resorbed. It does not complicate the extraction at all. I agree with your dentist in that you will be ok for thanksgiving dinner...... so long as you follow his post op recommendations which will include rinsing with warm salt water several times a day beginning the day after the extraction and continue with it for several weeks after. If you've read Chemar's posts on her own dental experience, you can see how well she healed because she took care of herself afterwards! Her recommendation to take the arnica pillules worked like a charm! Arnica is also used in cosmetic surgery to reduce inflammation and pain...... it does not interfere with meds and can be used at your discretion. I have patients that do not need any pain meds because they said taking the arnica every 3-4 hours does the trick! I don't think you will be given an rx for perioguard. The salt water is the perfect healing tonic for oral surgery. I know you are anxious........ but you will be fine!! Bring a set of headphones and your favorite CD to your appt and turn up the volume!! The procedure will be quick and you will be ok!! Please keep us posted....... ~'.'~ Bryanna |

No hammers chisels or the like! Since this oral surgeon does nothing but this type of thing...it was a done deal in 1/2 hour! I have never seen such a professional [tho maybe production line] practice in my life! The whole place was spic and span, professional staff and a down to business yet kind approach to it all.
Only thing I could Kick myself about was I remembered the next day that my dentist had wanted the tooth to go for biopsy...I peeked at it when it came out and just shuddered...get it out of my line of sight! Well, do you blame me? At least it came out intact-that is a good sign in my opinion? I progressed to mashed potatoes & Ice cream yesterday to a scrambled egg [soft-ish] today. I am going to party hard tonite with curried pumpkin soup from whole foods. I do have the Periodex tho...and since I've used it before, I do know the pros and con's of the use. Only difference this time is that I am supposed to use it as a sort of 'soak' rather than rinse. I'm trying... At least the Periodex KILLS most everything it touches... I'll have to call his office Tuesday tho to find out what local anethestics were used tho...I've gotten what seems to be a reaction in a bit of dry blistering on the palms of my hands...Would like to narrow that down for the future [got 3 more of those like-type molars-want to be prepared]. That is that so far [knock lots of wood!], Will let you all know when I get my first deliteful chomp on a perfectly made [by me!] steak! Somehow pumpkin soup is just NOT the same. - j PS Anxious wasn't quite it? The last times I'd had teeth pulled were both times FOUR at once. It did require the hammer and chisel aspects. But, this time, compared to those and cancer surgery? Walk in the park-plain and simple. |

I think what the blister thing is ===is some allergic reaction to some anathestic. I'm gonna get and go down the list of what the stuffs 'did' to me and sort it out. No one else medical will...I suspect.
Right now, tho...I am like my former very large cat [18 pounder] when I put him on a diet...I am ready to gnaw wood! I know better, but...I WANT!!!!! No signs of infection tho [knock wood quickly-your head is attached and handy?] and am in a very strange sort of holding period.. Better go suck or sip on my calcium chews...heaven knows I better not CHEW on them about now...You all know what I mean! -j I do have to ask tho....ARE WE REALLY HAVING FUN NOW???? Tell me we are..we are on a 'carnival ride' or something. This stuff can be soo surreal. Weirder still, was my podiatrist visit the day after the toof thing...That doc knew this guy and well, the good words just gushed out...Times like this? I guess I gotta count my blessings and multiply them. When docs from unrelated fields respect docs from those other fields...it is a true warm fuzzy that you went to the right place.. Ya know? Tho I am far from a DOC...HEAPS of warm fuzzies to all of you! -hey, after tooth invasion one deserves far more? But I am not the one to 'deliver'. - j |
