Default Diet and depression

Hi All, I'd like to pass on some information that has helped me tremendously, as I understand it "the" cause of depression is not known, so I'm not saying this is the answer for everyone but it worked for me. I've suffered from mood swings, fatigue, irritability and brain fog most of my life, I been in some very deeply depressed states, all of which lifted by about 95% when I went on an all protein diet. I lost a lot of weight, fast, and felt better than I had ever felt, but I'm 5'10'" and I was down to 155#s so I started adding what I thought was safe carbs and the symptoms returned. At the time I didn't know anything about gluten or lactose sensitivities and I definitely wouldn't have suspected a fructose sensitivity. Long story short. Some of the symptoms of fructose malabsorption are brain fog, fatigue and depression, my symptoms lifted dramatically in 48hrs after eliminating fructose, sorbitol is another problem sugar especially combined with fructose. Again I'm not saying this will apply to everyone but I invite you to read through these links. I have asked around and most people I've talked to are unaware of this, yet it affects 1in3 people. Note: there is a difference between Hereditary Fructose Intolerance and fructose malabsorption or sensitivity.

Hi shiraT, gluten, casein and fructose can all cause a condition of malabsorption, vital nutrients are not absorbed by the small intestine thus creating a condition of deficiency. 50% of the worlds population is casein intolerant, 30% of Europeans and people of European decent are fructose malabsorbers and about 1 in 130 (some say 1 in 60) are gluten intolerant. Ironically I was taking a sublingual B12 but the first 2 ingredients were fructose and sorbitol, within 48 hours after my last one my depression completely lifted and I have been fine since.

For the past 3 months or so I've limited my self to cauliflower, broccoli, onions, spinach and chicken and a little bit of fruit now and then. I know it sounds real restrictive and it is, but you have to give your gut, liver and brain time to heal. Another reason its so restrictive is I'm limiting the amount of foods containing glutamate and aspartate. This is just what I've decided to do, it works for me, I want to be careful and not suggest this "has to be done". The bottom line is, you have to find what works for you. For a better understanding of food intolerances you might wanna check out this web site,
