Confused new to all this epi

Hi mt Name is jenny, i've had many heath problems for 12 years with not much help from my Dr, i have visaul aura rocking and wobbling balance and Dr's now think possible epilepsy. i dont suffer from convulsion, but do lose consentration, studder and slurr my ords occasionaly and have attacks of fear as well that rise in my body, seems this is also aura, no head ache, except for a electric shock that starts at the bace of my scull and ends at the top of my head.
i'm waiting on MRI and EEG, should take a while for results they say.
so ive been put on temporary valium untill then, which with in 3 days has alowed me to walk with no pain as the stiffness in my legs is normaly full on. aura is still persisting but not as strong.
during the 12 years ive not had alot of help from the medical comunity , this is why i'm researching myself. valium at 2mg a night has helped dr wanted me to take 5 but it makes me feel very anxious at that leval for some reson, so i'm listening to my own body. i thinks its some type of reaction to the drug so will have to discuss this with my new wonderful doc next week.
the reson i'm wrighting you all is ?

Q: i know antileptic drugs seem to have antisiezure copacity in them, and also an anti stress component as well . and i do understand why. but
anti anxiety drugs just dont work for me, so is there a anti seizure drug that only fixes the E and not the anxiety side of it????

any names or brand names would be truly helpfull .
i dont want to be put on YET another drug which has more side effects than the illness it self . so i can be as informed as possible just incase i need these meds for life? of cause i'll take my dr's advice, but when it comes to any meds i'm very very sensitive. i will have a reaction to the mildest med and they work fast and hard on me. even asprin,
thank you so much in advance. jenny.

You don't have to have convulsions to have seizures. You may be having simple partial seizures. That's what auras are. There are many meds out now to control simple partial seizures. You first have to wait until your MRI and EEG test results come back to find out what type of meds you need to take. That is up to your doctor to make a decision on.

Good luck on whatever happens.

I had said something similar to my Epileptologist at one point in time. She said what I thought were anxiety attacks (which randomly showed up without a trigger) were probably associated to my seizures. I personally find that my AED's do nothing for stress/anxiety for me. Then again, most of them don't help with my seizures.

If it is seizure activity you have, I wouldn't be too shocked to find out yours are hanging around your Occipital and/or Parietal Lobe. HERE is a link where you can read about them.

As far as medications, you should check out the link below and then research each medication and their potential side effects.

Hope this small bit helps out some.

Hi Jenny,
Welcome to the forum. I've had epilepsy for 35 yrs. and what you are describing sounds very much like a partial seizure known as an aura seizure, sometimes an aura seizure can lead into a complex partial or absence seizure with me. I've learned that the moment I start to see colors in my eyes and get a funny feeling in my stomach to tighten up all the muscles in my body and make my hands into tight fists, by doing this it stops the seizure. My neuro taught me about it yrs. ago.
I've tried 14 different AED's and not a single AED has stopped my seizures, I later found out that I was drug resistant so I started taking vitamin B12 once a day, and I started the ketogenic diet which is a diet high in fat but low in carbs. and protein. This has been the biggest help reducing my seizures even after having 2 brain surgeries. Also stay away from nutra sweet (ex. diet soda) I found out that if I eat or drink anything with nutra sweet in it it will cause more electrical activity in the brain and lead to seizures for me.
If you haven't started keeping a journal of all of your possible seizures. Get a calendar and write down what time they happen along with a description of the seizure. Also write down when you start and stop your monthly cycle. By doing this you may be able to see a pattern as to what time of day or night and what days of the month you are more likely to have any seizures. It's been proven that when the hormones change each month many women have more seizures. Also lack of sleep and to much stress and bright lights can trigger seizures.
