Confused still in no mans land feeling very down

Hi every one, well i said I wouldnt get back to you all untill in knew what was going on, Had my eeg and saw the neurolowitch today, and she said they found nothing, I knew this was the case as I felt no attacks during my 24 hour take home eeg. she has told me my symptoms are to many, This dosnt surprise me as it's been 13 years of hellish symptoms ,from my constipation ibs , dreamy states, ataxia ect, the list is so long. she said she feels this is anxiety. manifesting all this, right now i'm defeated and very low I thought I'd have an answer today and could get some meds to get me through this next month. she said if you have another episode you can come straight in and we'l do an eeg within that hour,(if she could have done that why not in the 1st place) I said would it still show up a 1/2 hour after an attack and she said yes. (is this correct)?????
I have an amazing 22 year old daughter, a magnificent husband, and the best life anyone could hope for so why would i have anxiety? when i told my mum today , she said but you've always had these symptoms. we just thought they were part of your personality. so what dose one make of all this. for me it say's I'm crazy, and I havent stopped doubting myself sinse, am i somatizing manifesting? sorry but i really need a pep talk here. thankyou all , jen from oz

I'm not positive, Jen. I've had an EEG after an attack that showed mild activity and then another a few hours after an attack which did show moderate activity. However, every EEG I have had always shows something (which is weird, because I don't always feel something, heh.).

Have you considered going to another Neurologist for a second opinion, or going to an Epileptologist? If you haven't been to an Epileptologist I'd strongly suggest doing that. Not to pick on Neuro's, but Epi's are more familiar with things that cause these symptoms even if it isn't Epilepsy (if it's not seizures, they have a better chance of knowing what it is and where to send you to get the problems resolved).

My Epileptologist is not very nice. She's not one of those doctors you feel like you could hug as a way of saying, "thanks". However, she is ridiculously smart and has an insane amount of knowledge in not just Neurology, but rare diseases, conditions and other things (cardiology, etc.). I certainly wouldn't like her as a friend, but she's a very thorough doctor and I feel safe in her hands.

Hi Jen! I have anxiety problems and I have taken anti depressants for it. There is good and bad anxiety!!! I know that everything can be just fine with me and I get anxious. I do believe it is in my nature...due to the past...but once I realized that anxiety is not always from negative reasons it helped me. I recognise how I feel and why and it helps me to be OK. There is a forum here for anxiety..you should check it out! Dorrie

I have had eeg's that were negative. I have read that nothing usually shows on the eeg unless you have a sz durring the eeg. However I never thought of having an eeg soon after a sz; maybe that would work.

Surface electrode EEG’s have the ability to catch activity near the surface but not the whole surface (for example behind the eyes) and nothing deep, period.

In tests with patients who have epilepsy and were having seizures while wearing both surface and deep electrode EEG, many were not seen on the surface electrode and were seen on the deep electrode while others were not seen by either.

Source for some of the articles: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/q..._uids=88319291

We are living in a world in which many are diagnosed with tests known to have high inaccuracies yet being used (by some) to define what ails unquestionably.

Its seems of many diagnoses later becoming “clear” that psychological issues are to blame nearly commonplace; horse behind the carriage syndrome.

What becomes treatment for
having been created by
not treating what originally were the problems
and likely still are.

Iatrogenic.

I had no anxiety in my life until entering doctor offices who continued guessing (incorrectly) as to what ailed me. An EEG was used to show that I did not have E. unfortunately they were wrong as later tests showed I clearly do have E among other things. The anxiety was born from the pin-the-tail-on-the-diagnoses routine.

Mad jen from oz reply

thanx every one , she has given me a drug called xanax and told me if i dont have any e episodes during taking this drug that its possibly anxiety so i'll just wait and see , but i dont like what this drug is doing all i want to do is sleep, and i have to work so thats goig to be fun. i can bearly walk let alone sing in my band, god bless you all and i'll let you know what happens in around two weeks. she wants to see me again.

and youre right what came first the chicken or the eeg, did lack of diagnosis and constant illness cause me to become riddled with anxiety or was it just the illness itself? i suppose only god knows that answer.
hugs to all jen form oz.

Xanax is pretty strong. When I lost my sons father they gave me that. I'd personally have asked for something lighter, like a light dose of valium if she's dead set on anxiety. Good luck staying awake, I slept like 18 hours! I did get some much needed sleep though, for what its worth.
