Default Lymes Disease and mental health

My partner has been suffering from an undiagnosed neurological disorder for many years now. As time has gone on the symptoms have been progressively worstening and the flare ups becoming more frequent. To cut a very long story short there are three possible diagnosis that have been banded around for years, Lymes, MS and systemic Lupus. My partner has been suffering with so many physical symptoms, but more recently has experienced mental health problems and two days ago had a full mental health break down. The features are severe paranoia and anxiety and some psychotic episodes. This coincided with being prescribed antibiotics for a chest infection. I was wondereing whether anyone knows if there is any relationship between Lymes, antibiotics and the onset of mental health issues. I would value any thoughts or experiences anyone may have as I am concerned that this may cloud the neurological issues and detract from at last getting a diagnosis.

Lightbulb well...

Certainly, drugs used for infection, specifically fluroquinolones,
Cipro and Levaquin are neurotoxic. People do have reactions,
including delirium and even seizures.

But Lyme itself can have affects on the brain. I recall reading about a young man put in a mental hospital, who was really suffering from Lyme.

Some people when given mixtures of drugs, have a change in the blood brain barrier and experience delirium and other problems. Even simple drugs like Pepcid and Zantac can do this.

This thread has some information on drug induced mental effects:

Somtime when people who have undiagnosed lyme start antibiotic they have what is called a herx reaction. It is kind of like the the lyme bug becomes aggressive and is trying to fight against the antibiotic. The person may seem to have worse sx, but that is just further insurance that they reall do have lyme disease.
