ok, I give up. My GI is going to do an endoscopy/colonoscopy next week on me. I am very constipated, and he suggested I use miralax. I have taken this stuff in the past, and ended up in the other direction. He suggested I take 1/4 dose, and move it up a 1/4 dose each day till I start getting the results I am more comfortable on.
why does the active ingredient remind me of anti freeze? Anyone else take this? Tell me your experience please. ![]()

Please let us know what your results are with this go juice. I have been taking Doc-a-Lac and it is next to worthless.
I called the pharmacist today and she told me to try something called "Senna". We can compare notes for useful plunger tools. gmi |

I give it to patients often. They seem to prefer it in juice and report it helps although their issues are more just good old fashion constipation from inactivity, poor diet and medication not so much neuro stuff. I hope you have good luck with it.

FYI they are also found in your shampoos, lotions, toothpaste, baby wipes, food dyes, cake mixes, nail polish, body sprays, deoderants - the list is endless. They also have many abbreviations which mean the same thing (PEG, PEO, PPG, PG). It takes forever to shop and find products safe for my DD. I don't worry about this for myself, just avoid it for my DD because she has this rare allergy. I could go on and on about this subject just because I have had to do so much research because her doctors, even her allergist, have never had a patient allergic to it! From what I've heard, most people I know that have used this, it worked. Last edited by karousel; 12-01-2009 at 09:23 PM. |

Funny you should bring up mirilax! I just saw a new doctor (urologist) for the UTIs I am now getting from Tysabri. One of my instructions from her was to use it because constipation is a risk factor for UTIs (according to her). She said it is imperative that I have a bowel movement everyday. Easier said than done. The first night Mirilax worked like a charm. The next few nights not so good. But I've been on antibiotics which are making me regular so I have stopped the "antifreeze" for now.

No personal experience but I've always found Movicol to be the kindest and most effective shifter for my patients. One sachet maintenance, up to eight sachets for an absolute clear out. I wonder what it's called over the pond?

I have been on this about 5 days now. The first 3 days my stomach was upset, and I was a bit nauseous. I dont know if this was from the miralax or from my whole other tummy issue. I am up to 3/4 of a cap each morn, and I admit I have been going every morn. Its quite a bit softer than it used to be. I used to have a bowl of rocks. I am going to continue to use it, and hope that things smooth out for me. I am quite tired of my tummy ache, and my belly issues.
So far...so good.

Found Miralax to be gentle (no pain) but full dose made me a mess, than more and more again following 24 hours. Luckily I have lots of underpants. Ended up sleeping on a towel, which I changed twice or so a night. So only take in need, take 1/4 the dosage. I've worked up to going 2x going a week. Take Stool softener 2-3 nights before anticipated event. Every AM DH mixes a dose of Benefiber in my morning coffee. I eat the apricots my PCP suggested when I can (this year in a chair has made my parts spread and I am aware of caloric intake). 2x a a week working for me, no discomfort occurs, just gently feel need right before. I try to eat Fiber One (which DH calls "FIRE ONE!!!) when I can. Found on a cruise, increased intake makes me go often, but if I ate that way all the time, I'd have to get out the sweats!!! (besides they had a great chef)
