Default Anyone experience Jerks? (not the people kind)

Hi all,
Over the last several days, several joints have been jerking. For instance, my left shoulder suddenly jerks my arm forward like a Rock em Sock em Robot. And my left index finger and ring finger jerk occasionally. Now my right quad is doing it. Is this MS? Or do I have to start worrying about something else causing this?

I get this sometimes but it's usually either my arms or legs while I'm sleeping. I've always assumed it was MS-related somehow. I've just never researched it very well before. I hope someone else can give us some insight to what might be causing this.

i originally had tremors in my hands. now that's turned into jerks.
i think it's a neurological thing related to MS. imho.

Every night it's like my legs all of a sudden get nerve conduction test cranked to 10. I get twitches in my inner bicep, sometimes finger, 5 second spasms in my legs & stomach during the day ect. Movement/exercise cuts them way down but return soon after I stop.

I do have restless leg syndrome, but this is different. Reminds me of Parkinson's videos I've seen which is freaking me out. I'm tempted, with all the carp that's been going on the last few weeks, to ask for another IVSM...I don't really like it, but it does settle things down quickly.

hi debbie,

don't try to diagnose yourself. i think if you're that worried and feel that this is something new that's lasted for more than a few days, you should see your dr.

keep us posted.

Thanks Judy, you're a sweety...I see the neuro tomorrow morning; I'll discuss this with him for sure.
Along with the fatigue issue...I was finishing a half sandwich the other day and woke up when I dropped the last bite into my milk...

Debbie, I was MS dx'd with myoclonic tremors and jerks like that, and more. They were in different locations. I presented in a very non-classic way with my symptoms. They can do an EMG to test the muscles, maybe?

Nerves and muscles are attached to each other. Clonazepam helped me. When I relapse they are come back. With IVSM it takes time. How many days of IVSM?-and what dosage did you just have? When did you stop taking it?

If it's a new symptom call the Neuro.

I only have jerking issues one certain medications. reglan is a HUGE trigger for me. I twitch and jerk and pop around. it is horrible. Could one of your meds be triggering it?

I hope you feel better.

I've frequently posted this but here goes again. My jerks STOP if I take enough magnesium. A neuro told me to look for the one which causes least diarrhea, 25 years or so in the distant past. My dose started at 800 a day, ramped to 1050, now at 900. I use Mag Oxide divided into two parts, one at lunch and one at dinner or bedtime. I take Calcium too but not at the same time; both are needed but are antagonists. What makes the Mag more effective is 100 mg B1 a day. I never have jerks if I have ENOUGH
magnesium, but I can have breakthrough ones if I need more. i.e., if I'm jerking at 900 mg I need another 125 mg. My jerks are in my legs and lower back, sometimes reaching into the upper back. I would never ever sleep if I did not have mag., and I fear the day when supplements might be regulated so much I couldn't get it. That would be the "end" for me.

Is this an MS thing, you ask? Either MS or Porphyria, as I have both, and both can cause this. Definitely a neurological thing, but isn't it odd that a supplement stops it?
Makes me think I need more than the average bear, as is also true for potassium.

I've put this down many times and I don't know if anyone follows it. It means I don't have to take the drugs some take for this. I do take a small dose of Klonopin for other
reasons, but it would not stop the jerks unless I went to such a high dose that I would be
asleep all the time.
