My feet ache and burn all the time. I'm used to it and take no meds for it....just do stretching exercises.

I initially had foot pain and balance issues. The pain gets so bad, I rarely wear anything but sneakers. I didn't have this problem before, but my feet hurt if I wear any type of shoe besides sneakers. What type of shoes are you wearing?

My problem is in the hands/fingers. Unrelenting achiness. It tends to subside, for about 4hrs, with 200mg Gabapentin & 10mg of Baclofen.

foot pain is my biggest problem right now! It's supposed to be Erythromelalgia, a little understood condition where there is a problem with the micro-vascular circulation. In my case it is supposed to come from Polycythemia Vera, a condition I have had perhaps 5 years, in which I have too many red cells and platelets. I have gone 5 years with only phlebotomies and blood thinners, but at this point I am desperate and am starting chemo to cut back the platelets. I am taking Hydrea, which I flunked before due to really bad side effects, but this time I"m trying a half dose. If I can just get those platelets down some there's a chance the foot pain will recede to a dull roar....it wasn't so bad over the past 5 years that I could not walk on my feet, although always there was some pain. This is NOT arthritis.
I am interested that MS people have pain too and that drugs such as Gabapentin and Lyrica help. I cannot take those. I took one Lyrica and found it difficult to breathe, at least I felt I had constriction around my diaphragm, which I don't usually have. I am very drug sensitive. I am in a wheelchair about 75% of the time the past week, so that is what spurred me to give Chemo another try. There was also talk about giving me Intron-A to whack the platelets. |

Last April I had severe pain in my feet for several weeks. I thought it was plantar fasciitis. It felt like someone was stabbing me in the feet and tying the tendons and ligaments into cute, painful little bows. I think it was the start of some pretty impressive spasticity that I had in April and May. That spasticity went from my feet up to my ribs. My toes kept curling up and sometimes curling back. It really hurt. I used my mom's TENS unit on my ribcage when that got really bad. Nothing helped for my feet except massive amounts of baclofen, and even then it wasnt all that helpful (spasticity went away after I had IVSM, but I had tons of residual numbness and fatigue)
I had foot pain again a couple of weeks ago and now I've apparently got another flare with more spasticity (and serious balance issues). At least it's not as impressive or as painful as it was last spring. (I probably just jinxed myself and I'll be on the floor crying in a couple of days from spasticity pain) My neuro just ordered me some oral prednisone, so hopefully things wont be horrible during Xmas. The balance issues are more of a problem to me right now. Hope that goes away really really quickly.
