There are powders where I live for that Sally. I'm sure there would be similar in your country.

They're not your normal scented-talc-type-powders that some use after bathing, but powders with anti-fungal properties that have a three fold purpose. They help to keep those areas dry; they'll help to cure any current excoriation and they'll help prevent future fungal infections from taking hold.

Might be worth asking your pharmacist about.

In US there are the Zeasorb products.
http://www.zeasorb.com/

Sal, hospitals are really contagious centers for staph infections.
So using antibiotic ointment is a good idea for you.

This normally happens because we change the balance of our guts, and most of the good bacteria that keep things in check gets knocked down. We can also end up this way when our bowels speed up and we push out stomach acid with the contractions that come with diarrhea instead of it staying IN the stomach where it belongs.

Eating yogurt helps to reculture your gut. Some folks use the lactobacillus or acidopholus pills. Some folks use it as a creme for their sore back door. Others say eeeewwww!

Keep the area clean, cool and dry. Sometimes it can come from wearing diapers and keeping all the heat and moisture stuck inside your pants. Skin likes to breathe. Run around your house without any panties on and let the air in. if you leak, sit on a pad on the chair and get up frequently to allow air to the area.

Buttpaste is great! so is desitin, and other such things. Try washing the area gently a couple of times per day and allowing it to air dry.

Its a miserable condition. I hope you feel better.

My mom threw in a chestnut of rubbing pepto bismal on the affected area. Since pepto calms stomach acid and soothes sore irritate tissues inside the tummy it should work on a sore bottom. She swears it did magic things for her kids growing up.

If you really want to balance your GI tract.... I suggest Kefir.

A friend here suggested this to me last Sept when I was typically ill with my GI/gall bladder woes...and it not only fixes the inside, but also the female parts!

Kefir has 12 organisms in it whereas yogurts have 3 to 6 types.

Lifeway kefir is easy to find now, and even our local Costco has it!

It is really good, if you get the fruit based ones. The plain takes some getting used to IMO. It is a tasty smoothie, and I often have one for dessert at dinner.

Yogurt, even the good Stoneyfield, did not do that much for me as the kefir has.

You can read more about this miraculous product here:

Aw! I'm sorry, Sally! I hope the paste works for you. And, Dej gave a great suggestion of letting the air "in." It will help. And as mrsD mentioned, balancing the GI tract might help. I have not tried kefir but do eat yogurt every day. I had to play around with different kinds as some made my stomach worse while others did nothing. Yoplait seems to do the trick for me (unfortunately, it has more sugar and less protein than Greek yogurt). It seem to have the right balance of microbes that I need.

I hope you bottom starts to feel better soon.

my dr once told me that polysporin was better than neosporin but i can't remember why.

i'm glad your paste is working. i've used plain ol desitin which helps but i'm glad to read the other suggestions as i'm having a groin problem.

make sure it's not yeast. you'd have to get an Rx for nystatin for that.
i use the hair dryer trick too and it works for me.

If you use a hair dryer in...sensitive areas...make sure it's set on the coolest setting and keep the hair dryer moving. Easy to burn yourself or dry stuff out too much in the sensitive areas.

I have a big tower fan that I use to help air dry too. Plus, it keeps me cooled off after a warm shower.
