Default Keep on Moving: Use it or Lose it August 2012

I am baaack!

Some of you know me from way back, 8 years ago when I got deathly I'll aftr injecting recalled batches of Avonex. I started an exercise regimen then and it let me reclaim my life. I can't control my illness but I can control wellness.

In swim a mile every day except the one day a week that I go surfing
I have gotten good at catching waves. I can't stand straight up due to MS related wobbling on the board, but I do surf in a crouching position as soon as I pop up to my feet!

What are you doing ti stay active? Let's inspire each other. Not all, but most people with MS are able to do some type of exercise. If you cave in to MS, your muscles atrophy, worsening balance and strength, and you develop othr medical problems.

Let's Keep on Moving!

Surfing - awesome!

I think exercise, whatever kind someone can do, helps tremendously. Last October I joined a gym and went 5 times a week except when I was unable to because of medical problems, not MS related. Summers are tough to get my regular exercise since my DD is home and I just want to spend as much time with her as possible. So we've been biking, hiking, walking, shopping. I'm looking forward to September when she returns to school I can return to my regular exercise routine!

About the only thing I do on a regular basis is walk 4/10ths to half a mile in the mornings. I miss having an online group to report to. I made goals and did more when I had to be accountable to others. Tried to start a group on this website in the Health forum but no one is interested. Lots of readers but no responders.

In the late Winter/ early Spring I hunt for deer antler sheds. That can be very strenuous with deep snow. Around early May I hunt for Morel mushrooms. Lots of hiking.

Whoo! I am happy to see this thread again!

I walked about 5 miles today. its hot hot and humid out, so it was a struggle. Husband is talking about taking me up the mountain.

Yesterday saw the 2 moose boys, 3 foxes, a turtle, a deer, tons of squirrels trying to pelt me with their falling cone pods, and some other domesticated pals. Loads of folks got new dogs this year. one new kitty. so cute!

im jumping in the shower, its off to the neuro for my check up.

Where were you to remind me to "use it or lose it", when I lost it, was too weak to get into my minivan, fell, hurt myself, forced into an exacerbation from hell and ended up in the hospital, for 12 days of rest and rehibilitation. It was all your fault BBS..

The hospital PT & OT re-reminded me, so I don't need no stinking use it or lose it thread, TYVM.

Surfing!!!!!?????

In case you didn't see all my smilies....JUST KIDDING.

Still spinning here...went last night for 45 minutes. I have also spent the last two weekends cutting and bundling tree branches in the back yard in 90-100F heat.

Thumbs up

Hey gang!!

I just finished school for the year, thank goodness! So I'm on a new kick to get rid of the extra pounds I gained from sitting around doing homework after work.

I have an elliptical machine indoors that I use when it's not nice outside, and I do 20-30 minutes on that 3 or 4 times a week. I also work in the garden, and go for 30 minute walks, weather permitting. Thinking of taking a spin on the bicycle today. My son tuned it up in May and I only rode it once since then because it has been so hot in N. Illinois.

Today I'm doing laundry, giving the bathroom an overdue scrubbing down, then working out, probably a bike ride later this afternoon. I work the next week or so but now that school is over for this year, I'm going to try to exercise at least once a day.

Not planning on it Sally...it is too dang hot to do that too often. But we had a crew coming out to put new siding on the back of the house and had four 30-40 foot tall hackberry trees growing against the edge of a trellis that we needed to take down to get it away from the house so they could work. So we fired up the chainsaw and got out the loppers and got to work. We originally pictured it as taking about 4 hours. Instead it took two solid days working from about 9am to 6pm with a few breaks here and there.

But the new siding and all over paint job looks so nice and the back yard is so open again! So I guess it was worth it. Next task is putting edging and stone borders with mulch around 11 trees and cleaning the excess pickerel weed out of the pond. Might wait a couple of weeks for it to cool down before tackling those tasks.

We did manage to go out and do a group ride a few weekends ago and managed to get in 44 miles before 11 am. I was so ready to go hit our usual BBQ place for lunch like we always have in the past. Imagine my disappointment when my wife pointed out that they weren't even open yet... Guess I will have to ride slower next time.
