hip hop abs sounds like a high impact exercise.
With ms, you'll need to find a low impact exercise. For me, I choose yoga. It stretches your muscles and works them out without overdoing it. Swimming is probably the best excercise for MSers. Good, low impact, great cardio and you stay cool as doing so. I cut red meat completely out of my diet. I would highly recommend doing so. Im working on removing yeast, dairy, and eggs. I think im addicted to bread and ice cream so that has been unsuccessful, lol. I used to eat a burger for lunch and a steak for dinner. It was hard but has paid off. I sneak pepperoni and bacon occassiinally, but always pay for it.. Usually those items will make the uncontrollable jerking on my left side kick in. ugh, ms sucks. I hope this helps some ![]() |

Great idea to consider exercising! I think the type of exercise that you can tolerate and amount of time you are able to do it depends on how fit you are and if you stick with it will likely increase with time.
It wasn't easy in the beginning and some people say don't push yourself but I don't find much benefit in exercise if I'm not pushing myself. I have been blessed to be able to continue jogging, taking spin classes and the eliptical machine. I try to work-out at least 3 times a week and feel that it definitely helps with my mood and hopefully with my strength/stamina to fight this miserable disease.

What I've started to do now is this - probably since I haven't worked out at all for a while is just to walk for 30 mins a day. I'm also wanting to do a juice fast, but also might eat an apple a day since it takes a long time to eat a whole one. I have bottles of Bolthouse Farms Berry Boost, Carrot Juice, and Green Goodness to help me, since they are all real fruit and veg juice

I started walking because my husband had a heart attack and I wasn't about to let him walk with out me. At first I could only do .4 miles. But that was something. I eventually worked up to 1 mile and occasionally do more than that. Now the doctor has released him to do whatever he feels like he can do and I trust him so when he goes to the mall I go tot he Y. It has really surprised me what I can do there. Where there is no way I could walk 6 miles I can ride a recumbent bike 6 miles. I couldn't at first. I could only do 1 mile. Now I am slowly adding on some upper body exercises and some strength training. I have had to be insistent that I not let them put me on a full training like they would like to. I don't think they have anyone on staff who know anything about MS. I know I could do the aquatics but the classes are in the mornings and I am asleep then and at this point in my life I don't want to change that.
As far as the diet, I try to keep away from red meats, eat my fiber, make as many low fat choices as I can. I have had to relearn how to eat. A veggie pizza can taste as good as a sausage when you give it time.

I'm on my bicycle as much as I feel up to doing it and lately I have been racking up some good miles. Today I did 15. I also like Anndee's swimming suggestion. I never thought about that....hmmmm good idea.
