I was 51 when this hit and used to working 10-15 hours a day on a truck dock and driving, fatigue became the new normal right from the start.

I've needed naps right from the beginning; sometimes, 2 naps a day.

The last year or maybe a bit more, I get extreme fatigue where I have to nap, or flat out pass out for hours.
I find myself very confused and disoriented. I told my employer (very sympathetic) that I'm having cognitive issues now with my M.S., which I think isn't so much the case, as extreme fatigue causing it. Though who knows? The other day I was out with my parents at a coffee shop (having a tea, I don't do coffee anymore) and mid-sentence my mom (who gets excited very easily and often adds her 2 cents in) offered up some input, which completely confused me and I sat there starring like a zombie at my dad with my mouth hanging open, sputtering and trying to think of what it was I was just talking about... then mom tries to "jog my memory" which actually, for me when I'm trying to recall my train of thought, is a detriment and doesn't work! Good intentions gone wrong lol. ![]() Got home from the time out at the coffee shop (I mean, come on.. I was sitting around just having a tea, not out at a mall shopping which saps my energy or anything, a simple drink!) and I crashed out. For hours. I can't even recall what we were talking about. I'm only 37, but I have to nap. Usually daily. Rare do I have a day that I have enough energy to get through the day without a nap. Oh, and the worst - shopping. Which hubby and I tend to do now more in short trips than longer ones hitting up multiple stores, because he knows it drains me horribly.

Its terrible when it hits both the body and the mind like that, isn't it? The body seems to become a wet dish rag and the mind goes off into la-la land.
Stupid disease. With love, Erika |

I thought I posted again, but I guess I dreamed it!
I'm allergic to amantadine, and both it and Provigil gave me palpitations, the jitters, and nightmares. Neither one really did anything for the body and brain fatigue. Although I was wishing a whole bunch of you would say, "Why, yes, I went through a spell of needing a nap every day, but it went away!" there are worse things than being sleepy. At least I don't have to try to explain it to people, like other symptoms. Guess I'll just have to consider it part of my daily routine and move on. I do not like change. (gnashing teeth)

I go to a lot of trouble to make sure I get my daily nap. I'll persuade appointment schedulers to give me times that will allow me to be home and napping at naptime. I don't tell them I need to take a nap because I don't want to hear about how I could surely rearrange my naptime.
That doesn't work for me. I can't usually shift the nap to morning or even noon because I'm not tired enough. But after lunch, often a late lunch, I'm ready to drop, and I fall asleep very easily. I sleep for anywhere from half an hour to an hour and a half, and still sleep 8 hours at night. When I weighed a lot more, I needed two naps a day but as the weight dropped off, I was able to pare it down to one. This need for naps has been part of my life ever since MS came along. Sorry I can't be more encouraging, B2Y.
