Hello everyone.....It is my last night here at the Hampton. It has been a wonderful few days. All that I have done is RELAX. NO dishes, no laundry, no housecleaning, NO WORK....I should have been born rich because I could live like this everyday!!! Eventually I would have to let the cleaners in. I thought it would be a nice break for them to NOT have to clean this room everyday. Tomorrow we head back up North. I could stay so easily. I did have a chance to think about my job and my horrible boss. I am going to quit working there. I cannot say exactly the day but it will be soon. I have been so relaxed and stress free here. No boss calling me names and yelling and blaming me for things that he has did wrong. I do no let anyone else talk to me like that so why should he??? the next time he is rude to me(and he will be) I am going to say "PARDON ME"...."WERE YOU SPEAKING TO ME"? i WILL THEN REMIND HIM THAT HE MAY NOT SPEAK TO ME LIKE THAT. I work for minimum wage and can get a job anywhere...many new stores will be opening within 5 min's walking distance from my home. I am a great worker and I am very much a people person. My customers at work and I get along so well, they are such lovely people! I think I will miss them terribly....but....who knows where I will pop up next! Have a super day!!!:grouphug:

Judy2 07-15-2007 02:13 AM

Hey there Dorrie -- Sounds like you've had a great peaceful, relaxing time. Don't you just hate it when reality pokes its nose back in? As far as your job goes -- YOU GO GIRL!!! Hope all goes well for you!

AfterMyNap 07-15-2007 07:31 AM

You'll be great, Dorrie! If it were me, I'd walk away from that lousy, no-good piece of last year's dog droppings with my head held high. The only reason for quitting I'd give is him. No explanation, just him.

Whatever you do, you'll be fine!

Go for it Dorrie. *glad you had a nice vacation!*

Hey, maybe you could borrow some barf bags from the other thread and leave them for him as your opinion of him...just a thought! There seems to be plenty of bags to go around

Taffy 07-15-2007 10:50 AM

Go Dorrie! You can do it!

Hi Dorrie. Ahhhh, a weekend in the hamptoms. I'm jealous, but happy for you.:D

It sounds to me like, whatever you set your mind to, is gonna happen. All the good wishes in the world to you.

Dorrie,

Way to go! I had a boss like that. It got to where I couldn't eat or sleep, and I was a nervous mess. The day I walked in and quit, it was like walking out of a dark room into the sunshine.

I'm glad you had a nice vacation. It sounds wonderful!

DM 07-15-2007 06:53 PM

Hi Dorrie! Don't cha just hate it when vacations end.... *sigh*

Next time the Boss degrades you, remind him of "on the job harrassment"...

Don't take no Poo from him anymore... You are so above people like that... As my dear brother would say.. What a waste of skin!!!!

Glad you had a great get a way....

(I'd hire you!, but I don't have a business and I don't work and I don't live by you and ... and... and.... You get my drift, right D????)

AfterMyNap 07-17-2007 08:21 AM

Mornin' all. It's a rainy day in west MI but it's cool and I'll take it. I've been low on ambition lately and have been trying to take it easy.

Last night I went to a T-Ball free-for-all involving a wild pack of befuddled 4-5 yr. olds and some assorted sporting goods. It was hysterical and I recommend it highly for cheap but excellent entertainment. I was frequently reminded of Tom Hanks in "A League of Their Own" when he uttered in total frustration, "There's no crying in baseball!" It was really cute seeing three base runners overrun each other nowhere near the baseline and then land on top of one another at homeplate in a heap of triumphant joy.

Dorrie, I'm so glad you had a nice vacation, it does so much for the spirit. Do let us know how hard you kick your soon-to-be former boss. Take video if possible!

How's the bod, Flygirl??

I am doing better. Still so darn tired. I had a couple of errands to do yesterday and then slept for 14 hours. Geez...can't seem to gain any ground.

Here's a bit of excitement going on here!

Saturday when DH's brother arrived, we noticed a hornet's nest hanging in my favorite Cherry tree in the front yard. Upon further inspection, it was discovered to be a bald-faced hornet's nest. Not just any ordinary hornet, but those bad-*** ones! Of course, DH and I are both highly allergic (we both carry epi-pens for these guys!).

The nest has now tripled in size since Saturday night - it is about a foot long and at least that much in diameter - think soccer ball size, maybe larger!

This mission has been on to try to find a pest control company to come get this thing. No one wants to deal with these bad guys.

Lo and behold! Terminix called me back last night and said they take care of hornets. I was doubtful as this was thier "corporate line."

Their local office just called me back this morning and I explained to the the technician just exactly what they were up against and she said she would call me right back. They agreed to come out and take care of it and guarantee it would not come back! So for a mere $342 and a one year contract for all my yard and house --- she agreed to that before she asked me how big my yard was  , I said you got it Lady! Then we talked particulars about the size of my house and yard. I got a good deal.

I can't even go outside to that part of the yard, which is where my berries are right now and they are ready to be picked! Darnnit...

I want a picture of this big ol' nest before they remove it. It's huge. But I can't get close enough to get one. These types of hornets have sentries and it's the sentries that get you. And with my luck...we won't go there!

This is what the nest looks like except this one isn't mine.

AfterMyNap 07-17-2007 01:13 PM

Be warned, FG, they're going to take the whole limb, it's how they can guarantee it won't be back.

Meantime, if you can round up the local racoons, they'll tear into it and have a feast, they love those things. Not kidding! Coons will eat every last one of them, even dead ones.

And FG, you're right, don't risk it! After an attack from a batch of 'em that left me with 225 known hits, I was helpless for days, and I'm not allergic!

They can have the whole limb. We have 'coons in the neighborhood and so far they haven't found this nest! It's about 15' up in the tree! I think the 'coons are more interested in the new hatches of Quail. We also have 2 new Red Fox dens with kits as well. They are so cute. One den has 4 kits and I think the other pair has at least 2.

We've also spotted 3 Mule Deer bucks who've made a home in our neighbor's pasture. 2 of them are at least 4 points and the other one is a bit bigger. Haven't been able to count the points on him yet, but they are nice sized bucks. Still in velvet. They are beautiful. He was going to mow his pasture but decided to leave the grass for the deer! Nice guy!

Here's a picture of the nest. I didn't venture tooooooo close!

here's a picture of the tree. the nest is hanging from a limb about halfway up on the right hand side...

AfterMyNap 07-17-2007 02:33 PM

What a shame, it's a beautiful tree and it has a good shape. When I said "limb" I didn't mean "branch". You're gonna have a hole, I'm afraid. I'm always sad to see a tree take a hit like that.

It looks like a bloody condo! I could spot 4, maybe 5 different inlets. Sheesh, get inside and stay there!

DM 07-17-2007 02:51 PM

Holy Bee's Wax Batgirl... Uh... I mean FLYGIRL!!!! Now, that's a nest!! :yikes:

SallyC 07-17-2007 02:51 PM

Beautiful tree, FG. I can see why anyone would want to make it their home.

When we lived in the country, we had one of those in a tree on the property next to us. My DD, 4 at the time, played there with the neighbor kids. The kids were throwing rocks at it.

I called the county and they had it taken down, free of charge. Actually the neighbors took it down themselves, after the County told them to do so, and saved it. All the monsters were dead and gone though.

Before it was down, I had opened my front door and one flew into my house, but turned around and left without attacking anyone. I didn't see this...my DH was standing next to me, saw it and didn't tell me, until it was gone. He knew I would have had a heart attack.

I'm allergic to honey bee stings so I wanted no part of these babies.. I did see one and they were really BIG!!! These are the kind that can knock you right off of your feet if they hit you.

Too bad it was in your yard and you had to pay for removing it.

I am giggling to myself just picturing all this little league action..:D What fun and what memories it brings back.

It was raining here this morning too with a bit of lightening and thunder. It did cool it down a bit, but it went right back up to the high 80s and will stay there for the rest of the week..BAH!!!

Glad you feel a bit better today, Cincy.:)

There's about 6 or 8 inlets that I can see. They are building the 3rd story on this condo now! I don't know when Terminix is coming out, either this evening or tomorrow morning! Should be interesting.

Fortunately this tree can use some "pruning." It's a Kwanzan Cherry tree and is pretty thickly branched. I didn't get around to pruning it this year so the hole will be ok and it will fill in just fine with new growth next spring.

Sally - these bad boys do attack unfortunately. The sentries are swarming around. I just had to go move the trash can and saw these guys patrolling. They are pretty easy to spot! They love this hot weather we're having.

DH got stung by 3 of them and ended up the ER last summer with life threatening reaction. He left me with one epi-pen and my neighbor has 2 more. So, I am covered in case of any stings.

Chris 07-17-2007 04:32 PM

Hello Cheryl,
That thing is HUGE!!!! I'm shocked you got so close to it. When we moved into our Condominium in Fla., they were still building the other units. I came home from work at lunchtime one day and noticed our mailbox was completely covered in BEES!:(

I'd never seen anything like this in my life, so I phoned my husband and he came home and we had a Queen Bee on the inside of the mailbox. The thing was literally COVERED in bees. We called the local dept. of wildlife and they had a local beekeeper who was more than thrilled to come out and get the Queen Bee out of our mailbox. He came out several hours later all clad in one of those beekeeper uniforms, and was able to identify the Queen and catch her. He was thrilled for some odd reason;) . As soon as the Queen was caught, the mailbox emptied out and all the remainder of the bees died off within an hour or so.

It was terribly frightening, and fascinating. The next say there was a picture of our mailbox in the local newspaper. We both got a good chuckle out of that.

Be careful and stay away from that nest. They can be awfully mean little buggers.

I hope you begin to feel better soon.

All the best,
Chris

What have I gotten myself into :icon_eek:

I went to pick out carpet samples and scheduled an appointment tomorrow for measuring.

I have a ranch style house that I will be having the entire main level re-carpeted (living room/dining room, 3 bedrooms, family room, hallways, basement stairs).

If anyone has ever put in new carpet you know what a nightmare it can be. My kids and I have already started clearing out closets and moving some stuff down to the basement.

I swear this is worse than just moving. I will pay extra to have them move some of the bigger heavier pieces of furniture but for the most part I want us to handle most of the furniture moving.

Once I get the estimate and they have my sig. on the paperwork it will take about three weeks for the carpet to come in, so at least we have time to get things in order.

I know I will love it when it's done but holy gaucamole what was I thinking.

So, tomorrow between 2 & 4 my new awning gets installed and around 4 the carpet guy comes to measure.

Again.....What the heck was I thinking!

DM 07-17-2007 06:36 PM

Oh ..way toooo much work LeeAnn! I'm tired just thinking of all that you have to do.... But, it will be so nice when it's all in and oh so purty....

Don't overdo... pace yourself....

tovaxin_lab_rat 07-17-2007 08:52 PM

We did carpet a couple of years ago in our ranch-style house. It was a real pain moving the furniture. Fortunately the weather was nice and we just put everything outside on the deck! ;)

Oh...I will get over it. You know how it is. There just are things that you want to do and this stupid MS won't let you.

I should just be happy that I can walk...but what I really want to do is go to scout camp and hang out with 20 little boy scouts like I have done for the past 12 years.
But the camp is HUGE and not really a safe place for someone like me anymore.

Then, this is the year for the 50 Miler hike in the Olympics National Park. I have been before and I want to choke the scouts that whine and think that they can't do it.

I just thought that if I was the one to give it it up first..(before they hauled be out on a stretcher) and not MS telling me I had to give it up, that it would not hurt so darn bad. (but it does)

Oh well...who wants to sleep on the hard ground, smell like smoke, eat crappy camp food, or even worst...freeze dried? (Taffy raising hand)

(Stomping off to burn some Peeps............)

ME! I WANT TO DO ALL OF THAT AGAIN! *grabbing Taff by the shirt* C'mon! Let's go crash someone else's fire and eat crappy camp food!

Call your NMSS loan closet and borrow a 4-wheel scooter, that'll get you around camp in style.

Well, go to Olympic for the walk and be a cheerleader! Carry bandaids for blisters and water for the weary! The event will still be there, even if you're not actually hiking it, go be a part of it somehow. I'll even choke BoyScouts with ya' just for fun!

*grabbing daypack and garrotte*

Taffy 07-18-2007 06:59 PM

Thanks for the laugh Cindy! It would be fun to choke those boys!

The hike should be awesome. 57 miles. 3 passes! Lots of high county. Should be beautiful. I hope they see tons of elk and bear. (that makes me  )

I guess what I do get to do......since it is a young group....

After we drop the group off I will stay and camp for a couple of days in case someone bags it and needs to come out early.

So it will be just me and a few unsuspecting peeps! (rubbing hands together)

Then, oh boy, I drive around to the other side of the park and hope that the group makes it out alive.

If they do they are rewarded with Costco type dogs and chili and well, this huge lunch I fix.

Alright which boy scouts do you want to choke some sense into?

I am off to the dentist and then I will post some pictures! LOL!

Not of me at the dentist...heaven forbid, that would put Taffy over the edge for sure. Of the dead hornet's nest! It's kind of cool looking!

;)

Taffy 07-19-2007 12:44 PM

Why FG? What happened at the dentist?

I went the other day! No cavities!:D

Off to look at the scary pics...............
