Default Fever and SX,,,,,,,,,,,,

I woke up yesterday with 3 different sets of nasty fever blisters on my lips.......they are painful and keep popping and spreadin.
Well I assumed I must be having tummy trouble, even if there are no sx of it...that is usually what causes the blisters for me.........

Well today I felt pretty good when I got up...had alot to do today and now tonight as the evening goes by....I started feeling really sick........and my ms sx...(some of them) are now really acting up.....the tingling fingers and hands and feet and legs, along with the major pain in my shoulder and thigh....(left side).........and my eyes are burning like fire..and head is pounding.
so I go in to take my temp and its now 101...............(and for me thats high since my normal runs very low)..........
my question is it normal for a spiked temp to make the MS SX act up?
Its the tingles like I get when I stay in the shower to long.....ya know....

Gonna go take something for the fever and go to sleep..but will check for replies later........
I already called to make appt with the NP tomorrow.but shes booked full up...so will just see how I do over night.........

and NO I have no clue what the fever/fever blisters is all about..guessing some infection somewhere........

Just maybe say a lil prayer for me tonight while I sleep okay..........

THANKS FRIENDS,

Hugs and Heart,
Kay

Awe Kay, I'm so sorry your sick. There is so much stuff going around right now.

I use to get fever blisters all the time. I feel for you there.

Day's Orders: lots of sleep, keep hydrated and make everyone wait on you hand and foot. Don't lift anything heavier than a glass.

Hope you feel better soon.

I'm so sorry darlin, that sounds miserable! With the way outside temps can mess with Sx, it makes sense that internal temps coud do the same. Sorry, I'm not much help on this one....Want some marshmallows?

Aw, Sweet Tea, that sounds really crappy.

Do what Dr. Day says and get some rest, okay? Sometimes, well, the two times I've had a fever, yeah, it definitely made me feel like I had just got out of a too-hot shower. Feel better, my friend, and yes of course, I'll be praying.

as far as I know, Ms. Kay1, yes, fever can initiate a so-called pseudo-exacerbation.

and cause residual sx to flare up.

at least, that's the way it goes for me.

and (this is anecdotal, not documented by research) MS flares CAN be preceded by Herpes coldsores (or fever blisters)...

I almost *always* get Herpes on my mouth before a flare.

and... the more sores there are, the worse the flare... geez, I've even gotten them spreading up to my nose, and on both sides of my mouth at once!

so, I keep my ACYCLOVIR prescription always refilled, to stomp the lil buggers down... (400 mg, 2x a day)

# A drug called acyclovir is effective in treating herpes simplex. It must be taken by mouth. There is a cream form, which is basically a waste of money because it only shortens an outbreak from 14 days to 12-13 days and it is expensive.

# For the first attack of herpes simplex, acyclovir needs to be taken for 7-10 days. For recurrent attacks, acyclovir works best when taken as soon as you feel burning, or tingling in the area. Acyclovir only shortens the outbreaks - it does not prevent new outbreaks from occurring unless taken continuously. Acyclovir should not be taken if you are pregnant, unless approved by your obstetrician.# The area should be washed twice a day with a mild soap, such as Dove or Basis.

# Apply Polysporin ointment to the area once or twice a day to prevent bacterial infection.

# Some authorities recommend using L-Lysine 500 mg, an amino acid, found in the vitamin section at the drugstore. As soon as you feel burning or tingling in the area, take 3-4 tablets a day for the first 2 days and then 2 tablets a day until the blisters dry up. Also apply Herpecin-L to the blister every half hour for the first few days. This treatment can reduce healing time from 14 days to about 7 days. These products are available at most drugstores. Make sure you have food in your stomach when taking this amino acid tablet. Taking one tablet daily of L-Lysine has been known to prevent fever blisters in some people.

Hello Kay,
It's very common for people with MS to experience what is referred to as a "pseudoexacerbation" when we are sick or running a fever. It is the same reason that heat brings out our symptoms. Take some ibuprofen, drink plenty of fluids, and get some good rest. Your symptoms may not abate until you are fever free, and you have shaken whatever it is you have gotten.

I think it best to run it by your PCP so they are aware what is going on. They may want to run some labs (urinalysis and blood work) on you to make sure it is not a bacterial infection that can easily be treated with antibitics.

I hope you feel better soon. Get your rest, and keep us posted.

All the best,
Chris

FFM - Poor baby! Sorry you aren't feeling well.

Yes, those older symptoms have nasty habit of popping up when we're not feeling well.

Everyone one gave you great advice. Do your best to keep the fever away and this does help with the symptoms. Also taking a tepid bath helps. NOT a hot bath or a cold bath. Just in between. It will help reduce the fever. (I do this with every quarterly sinus infection I seem to get and it does help.)

hi kay,

couldn't add much to the great advice you've been given.
i take valtrex for herpes outbreaks.
i used to get them a lot. i started on daily valtrex by mouth and havn't had anymore problems.

i'd call and ask for a Rx for something so you can start right away.

you're doing the right thing. taking something to bring the fever down and resting until you can get into the office.

hope you feel better.
