Hi,

I've done lots of reading online...but am ready, now after 8 weeks, to go into a bookstore and find some books about MS and living with MS, etc.

I guess this is kinda like a mini-poll.....Just wondering what books have you found helpful?

I've read the guide for the newly diagnosed. It's good.

Believe it or not, my favorite is "MS for Dummies". Has a lot of good info parceled into parts. My hubby thought I was weird for getting it, but it's helpful.

I found an older copy of Multiple Sclerosis The Questions You have The Answers You Need by Rosalind C. Kalb. I liked it enough to buy the newer copy and use it like my "bible"

Lorna Moorehead's Coffee in the Cereal is about her first year with MS and it is really a funny book (much better than the 2 comedians who wrote books!)

When the Road Turns: Inspirational Stories by and about People with MS by Margot Russell and really loving it - features men and women. I found it very inspirational - lets you know that life took a turn not a stop....I highly recommend it.

The Multiple Sclerosis Diet by Dr Roy Laver Swank.

When I get down, it's one of the most hopeful books I can read. I look at his very long term study and see that his patients did great and did not become disabled over a period of 30+ years. That's the kind of stuff I need to see.

I also really like George Jelenik's book "Taking Control of MS" - it's got personal stuff (he's a doc with MS) as well as diet info.

I have to agree with this one. Another MS friend sent it to me as a gift, and it's educational, as well as a "fun" look at MS and how the author coped in her first year after diagnosis. Even my DH learnt from... and enjoyed this one!

Curing MS by Howard Weiner is very good but has a lot of medical and technical terms, and details of studies. I read thru it once and am re-reading with the medical dictionary at hand. My favorite is Women Living With MS. I have loaned it out and can't remember the author right now.

I liked Montel William's book "Climbing Higher", from about 2004. It tells his MS story, and expresses his bitterness about life. It helped me to appreciate my "lot" in life a little more.

I loved Curing MS too. Very hopeful and very interesting!

Have you seen her second book? It is about the first 5 years and I thought it was especially helpful for the guys in our lives!
