Your best bet would be to google "Pain meds without codiene" and your Doctor. Until today, I didn't know codiene was an opiate. Good luck

Just a quick scan shows me that the only other choice is typical OTC meds and morphine or demyrol. Unless you are in a pain catorgory of 10 all day, every day, like a cancer patient...I don't see that being prescribed for average chronic pain....I suspect if you go to a doc and ask for morphine, he'll put you down as a hypochondriac seeking med's as a druggie

I'll know more as I get deeper into my studies for MT.

He also said that to him, it's more of a last resort, after all other things have been tried, INCLUDING back surgery. My take is that I agree with him. I don't want to mask pain, I want it to go away and have normal life back.

EDIT: To withdrawl my personal problem <grin>

While I agree the best answer would be to try correct the source of the problem, sometimes that's not possible or practical. With MS and Fb, unfortunately there is pain that can not be "fixed". That was true of my sciatica as well.

That leaves the options of getting pain relief by way of medications, PT and/or TENS. I prefer not to use medications because my body is too sensitive to them . . . so that's why I chose PT and TENS.

I'm beyond sciatica and much worse, and pain pills are a way of life for me. Further, sciatica tends to come and go thru the years, a chronic recurring issue, not daily.

I used the ten's as I reported, and got zero relief. I could see how electrical currents might help with nerve pain,as well as accupunture (which I've used as well). Julie's focus of pain is hard to pin point, only her doctors can offer her answers that will make sense for her. I do see an ad for a new pain med for fibro....Julie, have you tried that?

LOL, I'm glad I don't need something like that, I'm sure I would be labeled hypochondriac or drug addict within seconds of asking for morphine or demyrol, LOL.

The Lyrica? That's a big joke. OK it might work for some but for me it did work at 1st but by 6 months I was at the max dose and had gained 60lb. It toke me 6 months to get off of it and I had awful with-draws.

Julie, I mentioned ealier that I have a Codeine allergy but Oxycodone doesn't upset me.

* Toradol (as previously mentioned)
* Tramadol
* Temgesic
* Capadex/Digesic/Doloxene/Paradex (different trade names for the same medication)

...........are all analgesics for strong pain and none of them contain Codeine. After that you'd need to go to your Morphines and I can't imagine they'd be easy to get presciptions for.

Okay, where's the drugs that make you LOSE weight? That's too bad Julie. Koala has some good answers it seems, and she is a nurse Most of my answers are from experience, or a quick google....the education is in the making. Ask me again next year

Hope you are feeling better! I'd have to be a fly on the wall and LMAO if you actually asked for morphine! LOL!!!! Funny.....

Thank you, I have tried Tramadol and that one was the worst as far as being allergic to. I'll look into the other's.

The good news is I did lose ALL the weight plus 5 more pounds, I'm VERY happy to be at 120lb after having 7 babies (and the "baby" isn't even 4 yet).
