"Simple Home Candida Test:

Try this simple test to see if you have candida. First thing in the morning, before you put ANYTHING in your mouth, get a clear glass. Fill with water and work up a bit of saliva, then spit it into the glass of water. Check the water every 15 minutes or so for up to one hour. If you have a candida yeast infection, you will see strings (like legs) traveling down into the water from the saliva floating on the top, or "cloudy" saliva will sink to the bottom of the glass, or cloudy specks will seem to be suspended in the water.

If there are no strings and the saliva is still floating after at least one hour, you are probably candida yeast free.

If you have a bunch of threads or cloudiness, and especially if it develops quickly, you can be pretty darn sure you have a serious case of candida infecting you. A few threads or light cloudiness indicate not as serious an infestation.

NOTICE--Unfortunately you can still have candida yeast, the spit test is not 100%. The best way to test for candida yeast is find a doc who has a Bradford Variable Projection Microscope and have a live blood analysis done or get a stool test done. Many chiropractors use the Bradford High Resolution Microscope."

I don't know if smoking affects it in any way, except that I know that the burning is more intense when dragging on a cigarette, when the cause of the burning is thrush.

Yeah, I did that spit test in the past, and that's why I did the diet because it came back 'positive' (so to speak) for yeast overgrowth. Which honestly didn't surprise me at the time, considering how poorly I ate.

Well fun. Apparently tricyclic antidepressants can also result in oral yeast. I guess due to the drying effect of them on the mouth. I certainly suffered through dry mouth from Amitriptyline for entirely too long, that is for sure. UGH.

It makes sense... I'm eating a higher carb diet as well (eating low fat, but definitely a lot of carbs in the diet) so I guess a combination of a lot of things...

It's going to be a tough next few days trying to deal with/sleep with this pain. It's so unpleasant it's not funny.

My grandmother had a tonsillectomy years and years ago when they still weren't terribly common. After the surgery, she opened her mouth to see what the doc had removed (her tonsils had been swollen and had been visible). Turns out that she was missing more than her tonsils! The doc had cut off her uvula too! EVERY doc she went to commented on that. It was kinda funny to hear them talking about a 94 year old's missing uvula.

I had oral thrush once. Got it from a lovely inhaled medication I took and I'd thoroughly cleansed my mouth out after it. OUch, OUCH! That stuff sucks big time.

Hang in there Dimpled (and White Speckled) One. Hopefully you'll be free of it in a little while. At least it isn't Hoof and Mouth disease. It COULD be worse! You'd have to see a vet!
