I am SOOOOooooooo glad that this is now clarified cuz I was definitely gonna answer something ELSE (after I stopped cracking up). ROFL I WAS going to say something like, "you were supposed to swallow, not BITE" but I restrained myself! ![]() My grandmother had a tonsillectomy years and years ago when they still weren't terribly common. After the surgery, she opened her mouth to see what the doc had removed (her tonsils had been swollen and had been visible). Turns out that she was missing more than her tonsils! The doc had cut off her uvula too! EVERY doc she went to commented on that. It was kinda funny to hear them talking about a 94 year old's missing uvula. I had oral thrush once. Got it from a lovely inhaled medication I took and I'd thoroughly cleansed my mouth out after it. OUch, OUCH! That stuff sucks big time. Hang in there Dimpled (and White Speckled) One. ![]()

Thrush or oral yeast, is an IMbalance, and can be caused by all of those oral antibiotics you are taking, have been taking, and it can be progressive once the body is out of whack. We all have good or beneficial bacteria in our systems. We all have bad bacteria in our systems. All the time! If you do something to throw it out of balance, it can take a long time to rebalance it. Oral ANTI biotics or (against life) can kill ALL bacteria in your mouth, gut and sometime skin. it doesnt care if a bacteria is good, bad, or helpful, all bacteria that is affected by that strain of drug must die. If you stay on it long enough, or keep having repeated doses or antibiotics you dont give your body a chance to play catch up. Most of the time when we stop taking the pills our bodies go back to good housekeeping. Some times we find that the good bacteria were so overwhelmed and removed, that we are suseptable to the bad over growing first. That is what happens in thrush, or oral/vaginal candida. What would really help is to REbalance your system. Add back in the good stuff, to help your body rebalance.
Yogurts with LIVE cultures (read the lable) will help do that. Yes, its ok to add fruit to it. Curbing the sugars will help, but unless you start adding back in some good stuff, its an uphill fight. PRO biotics (FOR life) are a good thing. IF you are unwilling/unable to eat yogurt (GAWD, I hate the taste) there are pills. Acidophollus, Lactobacillis, and the like. Try to pick a better brand. keep them in the fridge. This will help keep the good bacteria alive. As you start to replenish the good stuff, you will notice that the thrush will really back off. leave it on your tongue for an extra minute, and swirl it around your mouth. The good bacteria will help soothe and heal. After you have this thing back in balance, you can readd your sugar full gums, candies, and treats, but since you have had this once, you should be aware of it each time you take any antibiotic. I hope you are feeling better soon. I had that and its just awful. ![]()

Aww Dej, you're lonely?
![]() Anyways, I do have probiotics that I keep in the fridge (Trophic Non-Dairy Acidophilus plus) 'Flora Balance 6 billion active cells, 6 strain'. My problem is, I forget to take them, because they're in the fridge and not under my nose at the computer like my vitamin D3 lol! I did take 2 today, but I am happy to report that my nasty spots at least upon waking are looking smaller already in my throat compared to yesterday. Which leads me to believe personally it's strep, not yeast, but I'm not trying to play doctor here! It's pouring rain out today, which means, without a car... I'll be jumping in a taxi cab to go get ginger ale (the 1 soda that I will allow myself to drink when I am ill). I would get more So Good soy ice cream as well, but it's too long a trip to drive to the store that sells it (I ate the last of mine last night, helped my throat so much). So it's on the mend, apparently.. and I took my second dose of the antibiotics and antifungal pills today. Last night the throat pain was literally 13/10. ![]()

Hi Laura,
Sorry to hear you're having the throat problem, be it Strept or Candida. Just wanted to make you aware that they have a Nystatin Swish and Swallow, if you find out that it's Candida for sure, which would be soothing and treat the local area providing some relief. I didn't read the entire thread, but am assuming they did a Strept culture at the doctor's? I've had Strept throat and know that can be very painful. Either way, feel better soon! ![]() |
