I'm freaking out a little... My balance has been way out of whack for over a week now. I had a brain MRI this morning, still waiting to hear from my dr. In the last couple of days I've noticed the left side of the inside of my mouth feels a little numb. I realized tonight that I can't taste anything on the left side of my tongue. Has this happened to anyone before?

I'm so sorry to hear about this. When the doc calls with the results, make sure to mention this.
When my tongue is very numb, my sense of taste goes out the window. I rely a lot on my sense of smell for cooking at those times, otherwise I really over spice stuff. Great for me to make the taste stronger, not so great for hubby. I also have to be very careful when it comes to hot food and drink. I've managed to burn my mouth a few times. I will agree it can get annoying when stuff doesn't taste like it should and can be disconcerting. Hope this clears up for you soon.

I've never had that sx.......even when I had Bells Palsy on the side of my face I didn't lose the sense of taste. But....nothing about this disease surprises me. Anything's possible....

I've had a numb tongue, roof of my mouth, lips, throat, etc. and have never lost my ability to taste. In fact, it's usually then (with mouth numbness) that I start getting increased yucky "smells"; boiling bones, fire, diapers . . . blah!
I've heard of others that have temporarily lost their sense of taste . . . but in my experience, "taste" and "numbness" don't necessarily go hand-in-hand. It does sound like perhaps you are in a relapse though, with at least two new symptoms. We can be affected in many different/varying ways when we are relapsing, with no two people presenting exactly the same way. Cherie

I lost my sense of taste and smell in the summer of 2007. It took a couple months but they did return.
To this day, I don't find my taste or smell to be what they were before. At least they're there now!

Glad you cleared that up a little tho, since my experience has been the two going hand in hand. Now I won't be surprised if it doesn't keep to what it's doing now. Thanks.

I guess it's just another one of those situations where I feel better knowing that someone else has experienced something similar, if not the same.
I'm playing the waiting game now, waiting to hear from my neuro about my MRI. I already know what he's going to tell me. Just waiting for his confimation. Yes, this disease does SUCK.

Also get phantom smells all too often. I know it's just my brain playing silly tricks on me if I'm still able to breathe, if I don't see smoke or green ooze coming in from under my door.
